Title: Overnight Counsellor & Lifeguard

Reports To: Program Coordinator/Summer Camp Director
n
Summary A Camp Counsellor & Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety, supervision, and overall well-being of all campers both on land and in the water. They lead engaging camp activities, enforce safety rules, and provide a positive and inclusive experience for all participants.
n
They are responsible for supervising all aquatic programming, maintaining a safe waterfront or pool environment, and providing first aid when necessary. In addition, they support daily camp operations, including activity planning, equipment setup, and maintaining a clean and organized camp space.

A primary function of this and every other job at camp is to ensure that each camper, guest, and visitor receives the highest caliber of care and service.

Duties/Responsibilities
nCamper Care & Supervisionn
n
- Always supervise campers, ensuring safety and well-being
n
- Build positive relationships and create an inclusive, welcoming environment
n
- Support campers through challenges (homesickness, conflict, etc.)
n
- Communicate with parents/guardians when needed
n
- Maintain accurate incident and attendance records
n
nProgram Leadershipn
n
- Plan and lead engaging recreational and educational activities
n
- Create daily/weekly schedules based on camper age and interests
n
- Set up, maintain, and safely use camp equipment
n
- Encourage participation through creativity, energy, and leadership
n
nAquatic Safety & Lifeguardingn
n
- Supervise all waterfront/pool activities
n
- Enforce safety rules and follow all health regulations
n
- Provide first aid and respond to emergencies when required
n
nQualificationsn
n
- Experience working with children and/or youth
n
- Current lifeguard certification (required for aquatic supervision)
n
- First Aid & CPR certification (preferred)
n
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
n
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
n
- Physical ability to meet job demands (swimming, running, lifting, etc.)
n
- Aquatic instructor certification (asset, not required)
n
- Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations
n
- Completion of Scouts Canada screening process (including Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector)
n
