Sunrise Bakery is a large commercial bakery located on the west end of Edmonton. The company tradition began in 1963 and has expanded since to facilitate many customers across Canada and the United States. The small bakery ambience amongst 80+ persons is maintained by daily contact on a first-name basis between staff and management. Staff retention levels remain unsurpassed, with many clocking in 10 and 20 years of service.

We are seeking a agile and proactive Assistant Production Manager to join our manufacturing team. In this pivotal role, you will support the overall production operations, ensuring products are manufactured efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. Your leadership will help drive continuous improvement initiatives, optimize production workflows, and uphold best practices in manufacturing. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced environment where operational excellence and innovation are at the forefront.

Duties

- Lead, mentor, and coach the supervisory team to build leadership capacity and ensure all production areas are appropriately managed.
- Oversee all food production operations , ensuring all staff are aware of start-up times and escalating issues immediately.
- Review Daily Efficiency Reports (labor and yields), investigate variances, and monitor scrap rates and ingredient giveaway.
- Coordinate daily with Maintenance on equipment status, Sanitation on facility cleanliness, and Shipping on ingredient staging.
- Ensure all employees follow company rules, safety procedures, and regulatory policies including BRC and HACCP standards.
- Oversee assembly operations,



ensuring mechanical knowledge is applied effectively for troubleshooting and process adjustment.

Requirements:

- 8 years of experience in a medium-to-large food manufacturing facility is required.
- Extensive experience operating and troubleshooting industrial mixers and large commercial ovens.
- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Business Management, or a related field; however, equivalent experience may be accepted under review.
- Science of Baking Certificate and Journeyman Baker Certificate would be considered an asset.
- Must be a dynamic leader with exceptional time management skills and intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Must be able to speak, read, and understand English professionally.

We require open availability for our standard Monday to Thursday shifts (9 –10 hours per day). Availability for Friday and weekend work may be required depending on production needs.
