Early Childhood Educator – Halifax Early Childhood School (HECS) (est. 1959)

Position: toddler and preschooler (18 months – 5 years) Early Years Educator

Location: Halifax Early Childhood School, 5498 Inglis Street, South End Halifax, B3H 1J8

Type of Employment: Permanent, Full-time starting end of August 2026.

Please note: HECS runs a 10 month program starting September 2026 – June 2027. inclusive. We offer both half-day and full-day programs.

Salary: In accordance with published ECE Wage Scale, dependant on level and years of experience.

REQUIREMENTS:

- ECE Level 1, 2 or 3 (or if untrained, ECE Orientation completed within 6 months of starting post and plans to continue to ECE Levels)
- Up-to-date Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Register check
- Valid CPR and First Aid Level 3 minimum (this will be funded if not valid)
- Food Handlers Course (desired, also funded)

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Ability to work collaboratively with administrators and other ECE’s,



as well as parent-run Board of Directors, and families and partners in our HECS Community
- Ability to also work independently, and as part of a team, to plan an enriching, safe and healthy early childhood education program for children aged 18 months – 5 years
- Willingness and ability to help with meal planning and preparation (if required)
- Maintain an environment that protects the safety, well-being and security of children at our center at all times
- Willingness and enthusiasm to continue professional development within Early Childhood Education
