NSB Omega is searching for a Protection & Controls Engineer for our MAJOR Utilities Client in St. John's, NL.
n
Assignment Description As a Protection and Controls Engineer, you will be working within a multi-discipline engineering and project execution team supporting installation of the new generation asset or other work as assigned. If you are an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual; have a robust learning ability; possess strong oral and written communication skills; are an effective team member and possess good leadership abilities, you can make a significant contribution to the project’s initiatives and goals.

You will provide Protection and Controls support to project teams to ensure successful project execution.
n
Responsibilities Include:
n
n
- Working closely with consultants to review all technical packages to ensure compliance with the Client's standards and practices.
n
- Reviewing plant automation and monitoring systems.
n
- Reviewing protection and control studies and settings and providing feedback.
n
- Reviewing and assessing equipment configurations and settings.
n
- Reviewing and advising on new technologies and recommending optimal solutions.
n
- Providing input on the selection and procurement of Protection and Controls equipment.
n
- Providing on-site client support during installation and commissioning.
n
- Interfacing with other discipline engineers and operations staff to address issues as required.
n
- Participating in design reviews, constructability workshops and project management meetings.
n
- Providing input to, and/or preparing project estimates and schedules.
n
- Supporting contract management activities.
n

nWhat You’ll Need:n
n
- Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Electrical) is preferred; degrees in Process or Mechatronics Engineering will also be considered. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
n
- Eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) as a professional Member.
n
- Minimum of 10 years experience, including several years in protection/controls/automation.
n
- Working knowledge of program controllers (PLC or DCS systems), HMIs and other protective devices.
n
- Experience with major projects would be considered an asset.
n
- Experience with combustion turbines would be considered an asset.
n
- Experience working in a collaborative EPCM contract setting.
n
- Experience in design, implementation, and troubleshooting of protection and control equipment and systems.
n
- Experience in preparing specifications, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
n
- Experience in an assortment of controller and HMI programming languages would be an asset.
n
- Experience in the integration of various communication protocols would be an asset.
n
- Valid driver’s license required.
n
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
