We are currently seeking an Economic Development Officer, Business Retention and Expansion to join our team. This is a vital role for a strategic professional who thrives on building high-value relationships and creating the conditions for our local business community to thrive, celebrate, and grow.

What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Manager, Economic Development, the Economic Development Officer is responsible for the sustainability and evolution of Leduc’s existing business ecosystem. While the City drives new investment attraction, this role is the primary liaison for the businesses that already call Leduc home—ensuring they have the support, resources, and climate needed to stay and expand.

This role exists to provide deep strategic support and innovative programming across a diverse portfolio of economic initiatives. From leading Business Retention and Expansion surveys to overseeing downtown development and workforce strategies, you will play a key part in the City’s technology and economic strategy—ensuring our business services are relevant, timely and continuously improving. You will act as a concierge for local entrepreneurs, a subject matter expert, and a bridge between the city and key partners like the Chamber of Commerce and the Leduc Downtown Business Association.

What will you do?

In this key strategic role,



you will maintain corporate partnerships and drive economic programming while providing expert guidance to the organization. Key responsibilities include:

- Lead the implementation of the Economic Development Strategy and Action Plan, specifically focusing on action items related to Business Retention and Expansion (BRE).

- Act as a strategic point of contact for local business owners and managers, conducting regular visits to understand the local business climate and individual operational needs.

- Provide concierge services to connect local businesses with relevant supports, including up-to-date knowledge on trends, grants, and funding opportunities.

- Lead downtown development initiatives by supporting the Leduc Downtown Business Association (LDBA) with the implementation of relevant programming and events.

- Collaborate with regional partners and tourism operators to market the region and assist future operators in becoming market ready.

- Use information gathered from business visits to support workforce development and retention strategies that meet the unique needs of the local economy.

- Maintain high-level relationships with provincial and regional organizations like Travel Alberta and Explore Edmonton to stay aligned with tourism trends and funding.

- Support the wider Economic Development team by sharing supply chain data to assist with investment attraction and identifying relevant grant opportunities to support the operational budget.

Who you are?

You are a strategic influencer and relationship-builder who excels at analyzing complex data to drive community prosperity. You bring:

- A degree or diploma in Business Administration, Economics, or a related field (an MBA or formal Economic Development Certification is preferred).

- A minimum of three years of relevant experience, ideally within a municipal environment or a role directly supporting business growth.

- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to integrate data from multiple sources into clear, professional reports and presentations.

- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of establishing high-trust relationships with CEOs,



stakeholders, and government agencies.

- The independent judgment required to prioritize tasks in a demanding, dynamic environment where priorities can shift rapidly.

- A proactive mindset and the ability to act as an internal subject matter expert, providing professional recommendations to senior leadership and Council.

- A valid driver’s licence and the flexibility to meet with clients off-site and attend monthly evening or weekend events as required.
