Process Leader – Anaerobic Digestion

AD Energy Recruitment is supporting a leading organics-to-energy operator in the search for a Process Leader to take ownership of process performance at a wet anaerobic digestion facility in Regional Municipality of York, Ontario.

This is a hands-on, site-based role where you’ll be responsible for ensuring stable operations, optimising plant performance, and driving continuous improvement across a live biogas facility.

The Role

As Process Leader, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving the biological and technical performance of the plant. You’ll be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimising the anaerobic digestion process while ensuring compliance with site permits and operational targets.

Key responsibilities include

- Monitoring and adjusting key process parameters (loading rates, retention time, pH, temperature, gas yield) to maintain optimal performance
- Conducting routine SCADA reviews and site audits to identify and resolve issues
- Troubleshooting process and equipment deviations, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions
- Leading and supporting a small process team (EITs, co-ops, lab technicians)
- Coordinating with Operations and Maintenance teams to ensure safe and efficient plant activities
- Reviewing sampling and lab data,



ensuring compliance with environmental permits and reporting requirements
- Tracking and communicating KPIs, driving performance improvements across the site
- Supporting cross-functional collaboration with engineering and technical teams
- Acting as a technical point of contact for site visits and process-related discussions

Requirements

- Post-secondary qualification in a relevant field (biology, chemistry, environmental science, process engineering, or similar)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a process-driven industrial environment
- Experience with anaerobic digestion, biogas, or biological treatment processes is highly desirable
- Familiarity with SCADA and control systems
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities
- Hands-on approach with the ability to operate effectively on-site
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to prioritise and manage workload in a dynamic operational environment
