POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Operations Manager this person will be responsible for assisting with maintaining an extensive trail network of summer non-motorised mountain biking & hiking trail as well as preparing motorised triails for winter use. This position requires a hard-working team orientated person who has the self drive and dedication to get the job done. It is a hugely rewarding job working outside on a variety of trail related tasks and projects as well being integral in preparations for our events such as the HF 100 Ultra Trail Race and Hurtin’ in Haliburton gravel bike race.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are assigned to this position:

- Performs all tasks in accordance with established safe work practices and standards, operating procedures etc.
- Clear trails of vegetation, debris and downed trees.
- Manage vegetation and water for a variety of trail users.
- Identify hazards to trail users and provide solutions.
- Maintain and improve signage throughout the property.
- Install erosion control measures.
- Operate a variety of gas and battery powered tools in a safe manner.
- Utilize a range of hand tools such as handsaws, pruners, rakes and shovels.
- Operate an ATV on a off road safely.
- Assist with other facility maintenance and physical labour tasks as required.
- Maintain a professional attitude in the workplace, with other staff and visitors.
- Other duties as assigned

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATIONS:

The following criteria are the minimum qualifications required for this position.



Training in some areas may be provided:

- Trail maintenance experience and/or qualification an asset.
- A valid driver's license is essential.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in the weather conditions.
- Ability to walk a variety of terrains for extended periods of time carrying tools such as chainsaws, gas, etc.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Self-motivated with solid organizational skills
- Solutions orientated. Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience in using a chainsaw. Certificate an asset, ability to undertake chainsaw training is essential.
- Being practical-minded and hands-on is essential
- Computer and technology literate
- Safety consciousness
- Flexibility to work overtime as required

HOURS OF WORK:

- 40-hour work week. 5 days a week
- Typical operating hours between 8am to 5pm daily.
- This position may require you to work overnight, weekends and hours outside of the typical 8am-5pm schedule.

CONTRACT:

- This position is for spring/summer /fall, possibility of extension to year round full time.
- Anticipated start in May
- End in late September, or October

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND PERKS:

- Compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
- Recreational access to the 100,000 acres of private land owned and managed by Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 5 months

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Experience:

- trail maintenance: 1 year (preferred)
- chainsaw operation: 1 year (preferred)
