Roads Crew Equipment Operator controls a variety of heavy equipment in the construction and maintenance of the road infrastructure within Haliburton Forest. This position requires skilled persons to use bulldozers, dump trucks, excavators, graders and loaders to move, spread and dig material safely and efficiently. As part of a small, dedicated team major projects are undertaken in a forested environment a flexible approach and responsible attitude is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following responsibilities are assigned to this position:
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment in a safe and competent manner with safety precautions in place.
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, loaders and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during road and trail construction and related activities. Operate a variety of heavy equipment in a protected and competent manner with safety precautions in place.
- Operate bulldozers or other heavy equipment to transparent brush and stumps prior to logging activities and to build roads, campsites, log landings.
- Operate a dump truck as required.
- Operate a sand truck, grader and snow plow during winter months.
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill equipment.
- Identify faults in equipment and take measures to fix them.
- Conduct preventative maintenance.
- Perform maintenance routine on equipment.
- Carryout out minimal repairs on machine when necessary.
- Adhere to safety regulations and report hazards to relevant manager.
- Follow company work policies and conditions.
- Works as a team player to meet deadlines.
- Expected to work in a variety of extreme weather conditions.
- Ensure equipment licensing and certification is up to date.
- Performs all tasks in accordance with established Safe Work Practices and Standard; Operating Procedures; and
- Other duties as assigned.
.QUALIFICATIONS:
The following criteria are the minimum qualifications required for this position:
- Experience operating heavy equipment.
- AZ or DZ License or working towards would be considered an asset.

- Flexibility to work overtime as required
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Wage based on skill and experience
- Full time, seasonal May to October
- Minimum 40 hours per week (usually 4x10 hours/day)
- 4% paid vacation
