Drop Technician

As a seasonal Drop Technician, you’ll play a hands-on role in bringing fibre services directly to customers through testing, splicing, jetting, site mapping, and installations. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems in real time, and staying active. You’ll collaborate with contractors, schedulers, and peers while working with evolving telecommunications technology in the field.n

Position Details:

- Primary Work Location: Thedford, ON
n
- Servicing Burgessville, Thedford, and surrounding areas
n
- Seasonal, Full-Time
n
- Seasonal contract concluding in December
n
- On-site position
n
- Hours of work:
n
- Monday to Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
n




- Weekday evenings and weekends may be required as per needs of the business
n
- Must have the ability to work flexible hours, as required, including early mornings
n

nResponsibilities:n

n
- Test fiber using an OTDR
n
- Perform fiber jetting and splicing for drop cables, with potential assistance for trunk and distribution
n
- Hand dig for service fiber cables to complete installations
n
- Create detailed site survey maps to assist with drop burials
n
- Operate fibre plowing and burial equipment safely on customer premises
n
- Interact with outside contractors and peers to maintain current knowledge of progress and daily activities
n
- Collaborate with scheduling to complete assigned work
n
- Work with contractors to solve problems and keep process flow on track
n
- Stay updated on changes to industry practices and emerging telecommunications technology
n
- Travel frequently across coverage area and perform on-site visits
n
- Implement or perform preventative maintenance on all tools and equipment
n
- Adhere to company health and safety program in all related duties
n
- Ensure vehicles and all equipment are properly maintained
n
- Perform other duties as assigned
n

- Clear background check

- Clearly identify cable colours

- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products as required
n
- Basic knowledge of telecommunication services

nRequired Skills & Abilities:n

- Valid G class driver’s license and clean driving record
n
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
n
- Ability to work at heights, as it is a requirement of the job
n
- Ability to lift up-to 50lbs consistently
n
- Proven ability to identify potential problems and challenging situations
n

nWorking Conditions:n

- Work is often performed outdoors, which may involve exposure to various weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, and cold
n
- Requires physical strength and stamina, as technicians may need to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50lbs, dig trenches, and perform manual labor
n
- Frequent travel is necessary to various job sites within the coverage area, which may involve driving long distances
n
- Work hours may vary, including the possibility of overtime, evening, or weekend shifts depending on project needs and deadlines
n
- Work may involve hand digging and working in confined spaces or on uneven terrain, which can present additional challenges
