June 29, 2026, for Students Completing High School The Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) is seeking four (4) highly motivated students who are pursuing a career in law enforcement and are currently enrolled in post-secondary, returning for the fall 2026 semester or starting post-secondary in September of 2026 or completed post-secondary in April 2026.

The Visible Proactive Education and Response (ViPER) Safety Patrol is a research‑supported initiative designed to improve public safety perceptions through a highly visible, proactive presence in the downtown, Crescent Park, the public library, art gallery, and other identified hotspots. Staffed by four summer students working in two‑person teams, ViPER members will patrol on foot and bicycle in identifiable HiViz uniforms, serving as community ambassadors, educators, and “eyes and ears” for the Moose Jaw Police Service. Trained in de‑escalation, Naloxone administration, and authorized bylaw enforcement, the patrol will address low‑level issues through education and enforcement, reduce pressure on police resources, deter negative behaviours,
and strengthen community engagement while enhancing safety for residents and visitors alike.

SALARY: $20.00 / hour
n
SCHEDULE: Rotating 8- or 10-hour shifts, working days and afternoons including weekends and Statutory Holidays.

MANDATORY
n
n
- Must be at least 18 years old
n
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License (or out-of-Province equivalent)
n
- Ability to pass the Moose Jaw Police Service security clearance process.
n
- Successful candidates will undergo training at the start of their employment
n
- Successful candidates will be required to take an Oath of Secrecy and Confidentiality

POSITION DESCRIPTION
nUnder the Administrative direction of Community Services Section Staff Sergeant and answering operationally to the daily Duty Staff Sergeant, you will be a critical part of the City’s efforts to promote a sense of safety for seniors, youth, and families to enjoy the downtown, Crescent Park and other public spaces during a very busy tourist season.n
Your visibility and ability to positively engage people in conversation will also help the connection between tourists who have chosen our great City as a destination and local businesses, sporting venues and other attractions.
n
Duties will include
n(1) Extensive foot and bicycle patrol.n
(2) Serve as eyes and ears for the MJPS.
n
(3) Provide “Secure Walk” escorts to people who are uncomfortable to walk alone.
n
(4) Assess situations to determine if Police, EMS, Fire or other service providers are the appropriate response.
n
(5) Maintain notes of observations.
n
(6) Bylaw enforcement (i.e.- parking education and enforcement).
n
(7) Assist with parking meter coin collection.
n
(8) Serve as downtown ambassadors to provide tourist information on local businesses, venues and other public spaces.
n
(9) Deter mischief through your visibility in identified areas.
n
(10) Engage in a “No Visible Valuables” crime prevention campaign.
n
(11) Assist the MJPS in the delivery of Bike Rodeos to promote bicycling safety to youth.
n
(12) Actively involved in the location, documentation, assessment and removal of graffiti.
n
(13) Identify areas of decline and report for clean-up by the appropriate authority (examples: needles, garbage).
n
(14) In cases of a medical emergency, deliver Naloxone if required.
n
(15) Assist with parking, crowd and traffic control at public events (i.e. concerts, parades, Millers games)
n
(16) Other related duties as required.
n
Physical Requirements:
n
n
- Ability to perform extensive foot patrol duties.
n
- Ability to perform extensive patrol on a mountain bicycle.
