A lumberyard yard person is responsible for organizing, stocking, and maintaining lumber and building materials while providing customer service. Key duties include loading trucks, assisting customers with orders, maintaining inventory neatness, and adhering to strict safety protocols.
Core Responsibilities & Duties
- Customer Service & Loading: Greeting customers, helping them locate products, and loading heavy building materials safely into customer vehicles.
- Inventory Management: restocking lumber and organizing inventory by size, type, and grade.
- Yard Maintenance: Keeping the yard, sheds, and workstations clean, safe, and free of debris.
- Order Picking: Assembling and preparing material orders for customers.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety regulations, wearing proper safety gear, and reporting hazards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Physical Stamina:
Ability to perform heavy lifting and work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
- Product Knowledge: Knowledge of lumber grades, species, and building materials is often an asset.
- Communication: Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
- Math Skills: Basic math skills for measuring and calculating inventory.

- Hours of work: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9 to 5. Saturday 9-1:30
- Significant time spent outdoors, exposed to heat, cold, and noise.
- Experience operating forklift/loader considered an asset
