Summary

The Health and Safety Assistant provides administrative and on‑floor support to the Health and Safety Manager and contributes to the ongoing operation of the company’s Health & Safety Management System. This role assists with inspections, documentation, training coordination, and committee support, helping to promote a safe, compliant, and proactive workplace culture under the direction of the Health and Safety Manager.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) activities, including preparing materials, recording meeting notes, and tracking action items for follow‑up.
- Support the maintenance of health and safety records, including inspections, training documentation, incident follow‑ups, and corrective action logs.
- Participate in monthly workplace inspections alongside the Health & Safety Representative or Manager and assist with documenting observations.
- Support tracking of corrective actions and follow up with supervisors as directed.
- Conduct routine safety walkthroughs to observe workplace conditions and report concerns to the Health and Safety Manager.
- Assist with the development, review, and updating of Hazard Assessments and Secure Operating Procedures (SOPs) under guidance from the Health and Safety Manager.
- Help update hazard documentation when processes, equipment, or legislation changes.
- Support chemical safety, machine safety, and operational safety initiatives as assigned.
- Assist with the coordination and delivery of health and safety training, including but not limited to: golf cart operation, lockout/Tagout (LOTO), respirator fit testing, equipment or task‑specific training (e.g., forklift, scissor lift, as required).




- Provide support during training sessions, including document preparation, translation, and verbal interpretation where applicable.
- Respond to routine health and safety questions and refer more complex concerns to the Health and Safety Manager.
- Conduct regular First Aid kit inspections and report restocking needs.
- Assist with maintaining inventory of health and safety supplies, PPE, and inspection equipment.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements

- Post‑secondary education or certification in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in a health and safety support, administrative, or assistant role is preferred.
- General knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and safe work practices.
- Experience in agricultural or greenhouse environments is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with chemical safety, machine safety, and hazard controls is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to perform inspections and on‑floor observations.
- Spanish bilingual (spoken and written), including the ability to: assist with translation of health and safety documents and support training delivery and employee communication.
- Clear, approachable communicator able to work effectively with employees at all levels.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
