Position Overview
UP Vertical Farms Ltd, a pioneering leader in sustainable vertical farming and agri-technology, is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and data-driven on-site Director of Sales and Marketing to lead and execute integrated revenue-generating strategies with a strong emphasis on digital growth, brand storytelling, and measurable campaign performance.
This leadership role plays a critical function in managing, directing, and reporting on multi-channel marketing campaigns while overseeing B2B and retail sales growth across Western Canada. The successful candidate will combine strategic oversight with hands-on execution in digital marketing, content development, analytics, stakeholder coordination, and business development.
We are seeking an individual with a passion for storytelling, sustainable food systems, and generating high-impact digital content. This role provides strategic direction and creative coordination for the marketing and sales function while collaborating closely with Operations, Accounting, and other departments to align market demand with production capacity.
Considerable independence of judgment and action is exercised in the creative and strategic aspects of this work. Performance is evaluated by the Chief Executive Officer based on revenue growth, campaign effectiveness, brand visibility, customer acquisition and retention, and overall contribution to corporate objectives.
Work is performed primarily on-site and in accordance with established corporate policies and strategic plans. Occasional flexibility for evenings or weekends may be required for events, trade shows, retail/wholesale activations, sales meetings, site visits or promotional initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
1. Strategic Marketing & Revenue Leadership
- Proactively solicits and qualifies existing and new business (including partnerships) to achieve business revenue goals and targets. This will be done through sales calls, prospecting, trade shows, promotions, inquiries, telephone contacts, meetings, cold calls, sales trips, etc
- Promptly drafts, reviews, and sends proposals, contracts and other sales correspondence.
- Accurately confirms all purchases, quotes and negotiated rates while adhering to the company’s pricing structure, credit policies and general corporate policies and procedures.
- Produces and implements quarterly action plan to achieve weekly sales activities quotas and progress towards annual revenue and market share goals.
- Develop and execute comprehensive marketing and sales strategies aligned with corporate growth objectives.
- Establish measurable campaign goals (e.g., traffic growth, lead generation, retail expansion, revenue targets).
- Prepare annual sales forecasts, revenue projections, and marketing performance & metric reports.
- Assists and coordinates with weekly marketing and sales forecast, 90 day forecast and budget process.
- Identify and pursue new retail partnerships, distribution channels, and strategic collaborations.
- Monitor expenditures,
prepare marketing budgets, and oversee financial performance of campaigns.
- Research and identify potential grant funding opportunities that align with the organization's mission and goals.
- Responsible for full market knowledge as it relates to competitors, pricing strategies and industry trends.
- Assists and coordinates with ownership and accounting team on pricing strategy for the business.
- Researches markets to identify potential sources of business and increase market share.
- Manage the grant application process, including preparing grant proposals, budgets, and supporting documentation.
- Maintains an up-to-date accurate client/accounts file, database and tracking system
- Monitor, analyze, and report on sales and marketing performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement
2. Digital Marketing & Campaign Management
- Plan, execute, and report on integrated digital campaigns, including website optimization, email marketing, SEO/SEM strategies, display advertising, and social media advertising.
- Lead creative development across all media formats, including video, rich media, print, digital assets, and branded materials.
- Track and analyze web, mobile, and social media analytics (daily, weekly, monthly) to optimize engagement and conversion performance.
- Maintain and oversee social media strategy and content calendar aligned with brand messaging and seasonal production cycles.
- Coordinate user-generated content initiatives and influencer or retail collaborations.
- Ensure all online platforms (website, e-commerce interfaces, social channels) are current, accurate, and aligned with corporate messaging.
3. Content Development & Brand Storytelling
- Oversee design, writing, and editing of marketing materials including brochures, retail sheets, promotional calendars, posters, signage, newsletters, annual summaries, press releases, advertising copy, social media posts, and website content.
- Ensure consistency in visual identity, tone, and messaging across all communication channels.
- Develop compelling sustainability-focused storytelling to reinforce UP Vertical Farms’ leadership in environmentally responsible food production.
- Review written copy for factual accuracy in collaboration with internal subject-matter experts.
4. Public Relations & Media Relations
- Establish and maintain relationships with media outlets, industry publications, retail buyers, and community partners.
- Coordinate press releases, promotional announcements, and media outreach initiatives.
- Manage advertising placements and liaise with advertising representatives for print and digital campaigns.
- Represent UP Vertical Farms at trade shows, community events, and industry networking initiatives.
5. Event & Promotional Coordination
- Oversee planning and execution of promotional events, product launches, trade shows, retail demonstrations, and community engagement initiatives.
- Develop promotional direction and campaign assets for events.
- Coordinate vendors, facilities, budgets, and post-event reporting and analysis.
- Create event communications including registration pages, digital invitations, and promotional collateral.
6. Sales Management & Key Account Oversight
- Lead contract negotiations and key account management with retail partners and distributors.
- Align sales forecasts with production planning to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
- Develop pricing strategies to ensure competitive positioning while maintaining margin targets.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and consumer purchasing behavior.
7. Data Analytics & Performance Optimization
- Utilize analytics tools such as Google Analytics, CRM dashboards, and campaign reporting platforms to track ROI and marketing effectiveness.
- Develop performance dashboards to monitor revenue growth, customer acquisition, engagement rates, and campaign outcomes.
- Use data insights to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
8. Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gain buy-in for multi-channel initiatives.
- Provide training and guidance to team members on digital marketing tools, analytics, and best practices.
- Coordinate cross-departmental projects to ensure cohesive messaging and operational alignment.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and performance accountability.
9. Administrative Support
- Train and lead all team members to deliver a superior sales experience.
- Answer phone calls and respond to emails
- Schedule meetings and manage calendars
- Maintain organized client and project records
- Prepare documents, estimates, and reports
- Perform general office support tasks
- Manage the handover process of new sales through to completion, including oversight of delivery procedures, coordination with key stakeholders and conflict resolution.
- Managing internal and external Marketing collateral, including posters, signage, brochures, newsletters, branded clothing, and branded giveaways
- Collect and compile customer feedback in an easily reviewed and understood format for review by company management and leadership.
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Commerce, or related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in marketing and sales leadership roles.
- 3 years of experience managing social media presence for mid-sized organizations and working with digital advertising platforms and media formats (including rich media and video).
- 3 years of experience in a similar communications or marketing role
- Demonstrated experience managing digital campaigns, analytics, and multi-channel communications strategies.
- Experience in agriculture, food production, Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), or retail/wholesale distribution sectors strongly preferred.
- Certifications such as Google Analytics, HubSpot, or related digital marketing credentials are considered an asset.
- Proven ability to write, edit, and develop compelling promotional content for diverse audiences.
- Experience managing marketing budgets and campaign expenditures.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Experience with Excel, ADP Workforce Now, ICICLE, or graphic design systems is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of inbound and outbound marketing methodologies, brand positioning and audience segmentation.
- Expertise in digital marketing tools and techniques, including:
- SEO and SEM strategy implementation
- Social media content creation and campaign planning
- Google Analytics and performance reporting
- Facebook Ads, and email marketing platforms (i.e. MailerLite)
- Intermediate proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
- Familiarity with WordPress and Hootsuite
- Strong data analytics skills with the ability to interpret marketing & sales metrics and inform strategy
- Expertise in SEO/SEM, social media strategy, content creation, and analytics reporting.
- Familiarity with digital tools such as CRM platforms, email marketing software, ad management tools, and content management systems (i.e. WordPress).
- Working knowledge of emerging marketing technologies, including AI-assisted content tools, digital automation platforms and chatbots.
- Robust financial literacy, budgeting capabilities and cost tracking.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
- High level of adaptability in a fast-paced growth environment.
- Strong relationship-building skills with internal teams, community partners, media, and the public.
- Highly organized, ability to multi-task, and meet tight deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary range: $95,000–$100,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
