This position will include working with a dynamic team and an exciting routine every day, plenty of training, continuous learning and growth opportunities. MFES is an all-hazards fire department that responds to all types of emergencies including high risk, water/ice rescue, confined space, and hazardous materials, to name a few. There is also the opportunity to meet the community to help with public education events and provide our fire and life safety messaging.

New hires, upon successful completion of training, will be assigned to the Operations section and work out of one of the City's fire stations, or any other section as required. Along with a market-competitive salary, the City of Mississauga offers a generous benefits package to employees.

Duties and Responsibilities Here's What You Get To Do Provide exceptional customer service as a respected member of the community.

Respond to all emergencies when called upon including, but not limited to:

n

Medical – provide patient care, administer medical aid, CPR, defibrillation, symptom assist.

n

Firefighting – deploy hose lines, operate firefighting equipment, use hand and power tools, operate emergency vehicles and conduct pump operations. Rescue – search and rescue, remove injured persons from dangerous environments.

n

Special Operations – vehicle rescue, hazardous materials response, water and ice rescue, rope rescue, elevator rescue, confined space rescue, trench rescue, machine rescue.

n

Apparatus and station maintenance.

n

Public Education – participate in the delivery of education programs and attend public events to promote fire safety awareness and responsibilities. Fire Prevention – assess buildings for compliance with fire and life safety requirements, conduct pre-plans, familiarization and tactical site assessments. Provide assistance in a vast array of non-emergency situations.

Participate in continuous training and learning to advance your knowledge and skill.

n

Work in accordance with the provisions of all applicable laws and regulations and all City of Mississauga corporate and departmental policies and procedures.

n





Skills And Qualifications Minimum of 18 years of age or older at time of application.

n

Legally entitled to work in Canada.

n

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or academic equivalent. This position requires applicants with international credentials to provide a recognized credential evaluation report as part of the application process (WES, ICAS, ECA).

n

Must possess National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Firefighter I & II and NFPA 1072 (NFPA 472) Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations certifications or equivalent as recognized by the Authourity Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) (must have proof of Pro Board or IFSAC).

n

Please note that successful completion of required NFPA certifications are required prior to the date of application submission. Possess a valid and current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification, CPR BLS/HCP certificate or higher (e.g. EMR).

n

Possess a valid and unrestricted Ontario Class “D” driver’s license with a “Z” endorsement or equivalent (deemed equivalent by Ontario Ministry of Transportation), and a driving record that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga. Provide a Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga. Successful completion of, but not limited to, behaviour/competency-based interviews, a medical assessment, practical assessments, behavioural assessments, York University Firefighter fitness assessment (scheduled by the City of Mississauga), other cognitive assessments as required, swim assessment and reference and background checks.

Some assessments will be at the candidate’s expense.
