The Town of Ponoka is currently recruiting for Summer Labourers in Buildings and Grounds Maintenance starting May 4, 2026 to August 21, 2026

Position Summary

This position takes daily direction from the Building and Grounds Maintenance Foreman and assists with the beautification and maintenance of floral areas, parks, open spaces, cemeteries, playgrounds, and downtown streetscapes. This position is also responsible for the cleanliness of our community and addresses maintenance and minor repairs of our parks and open spaces.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide excellent customer service.

· Collect garbage and recyclables from Parks and Town facilities.

· Clean and carry out minor repairs to shops, yards, parks, tools, equipment, buildings and contents and machines.

· Maintain outdoor sidewalks and pathways.

· Assist in park and cemetery lawn maintenance, pruning trees and general clean up.

· Operate equipment such as self-propelled and/or self-riding lawn mowers.

· Cooperates fully with all aspects of the Town’s Occupational Health and Safety program, including compliance with all rules and regulations, and for continually practicing safety while performing their duties.

· Perform additional duties and special projects as required.

Minimum Requirements

· This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs, to be eligible you must be between 15 and 30 years of age, be a Canadian Citizen and have a valid Social Insurance Number.

· Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times.

· Ability to read simple signs and instructions and follow oral instruction.

· Ability to use easy hand tools such as rakes, shovels, brooms, hoes etc.

· Ability to stand for long periods of time on a variety of surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, turf.





· Ability to lift and move medium weight objects 10 to 30 pounds and on occasion up to 45 pounds.

· Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including and Criminal Record Check.

· Valid class 5 driver’s license, satisfactory driver’s abstract and access to a personal vehicle.

Working Conditions

· Travel to off-site locations may be required.

· Safety equipment will be required, steel-toed boots, safety glasses/goggles etc.
