Position Type & Location
- This is a full-time, in-person position at our office located in Exeter, ON.
- The working schedule is Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Job Description
The Role: Reporting to the leadership team, the Accountant works closely with the management, accounting, operations, and field teams. The accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring consistent accounting practices, accurate execution in project accounting and payroll, month-end, year-end, taxes, financial and compliant reporting,
The ideal candidate will possess solid accounting and analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to build relationships and maintain accounting policies and procedures to support the company's goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Maintain books of accounts (including but not limited to preparing checks, coding and posting invoices, preparing deposits, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and petty cash)
- Oversee accounts payable
- Manage, reconcile, and post all company credit cards
- Complete monthly reconciliation for all accounts
- Prepare monthly financial statements and contract analysis
- Prepare quarterly management reports
- Coordinate year-end preparation and prepare year-end statements with external accountants
Subcontract Management
- Process subcontracts and subcontract payables
- Reconcile subcontract accounts for the final release and prepare final documentation
Project Accounting & Project Manager Support
- Post and manage all billings and accounts receivable
- Cost coding and reallocation, monthly accrual
- Prepare monthly work-in-progress reports and financial reports
- Inform and address any inconsistencies or issues with Project Managers
Payroll & Benefits
- Oversee payroll functions
- Prepare and process payroll deductions and T4 statements
- Prepare pension plan contribution report
Taxes & Compliance
- Prepare and file GST returns and federal and provincial income tax returns
- Maintain accounting policies and procedures, and fiscal records
- Stat Declaration & WSCC documentation
Other Duties
- Maintain a professional and strong relationship with banks
- Prepare other miscellaneous reporting as required
- Perform other duties as necessary
Qualifications & Requirements:
- A degree or diploma in accounting
- 3-5 years of experience in accounting in the construction industry
- Highly proficient in accounting software, Sage 100 Contractor is required
- Excellent working knowledge in Microsoft software such as Excel, Word and Outlook
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with all departments and project managers
- Great written and verbal communication skills
- High level of initiative and keen interest in problem-solving
- Highly level of attention to details and accuracy
- Strong time management skills with a proven record of meeting tight deadlines
- A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable transportation to and from the office if not based in Exeter, ON

Pay: From $33.00 per hour
