The School of Arts and Education is seeking a Sessional Instructor in Communication Studies,



supporting diploma programming across the institution and contributing to the School’s BA in Multidisciplinary Studies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a combination of eight (8) first-year and intermediate courses in writing and communication studies. The 26/27 workload will consist of COMM 1150 “College and Workplace Writing”, COMM 1250 “Business and Workplace Writing,” and INTP 1104 “Healthcare Communication”.

Faculty teach on campus and/or online (with synchronous or asynchronous instruction). Experience teaching online or in mixed modalities is an asset. This position requires a regular on-campus presence.

Faculty at RDP are encouraged to engage in scholarship and research (particularly applied research). An active program is an asset, but not a requirement for this sessional appointment.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in Communication Studies. Cognate fields such as Media studies, Writing Studies, English, Creative Writing, Fine Arts, Cultural Studies or Interdisciplinary Studies will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

- Industry or professional experience and a history of post-secondary teaching is preferred.
- Familiarity with AI usage in workplace communication.
- The committee may consider candidates with alternative academic or teaching credentials in combination with professional accomplishments or recognized achievements within areas relevant to the position.

Red Deer Polytechnic offers a comprehensive benefits package including Alberta Blue Cross extended health and dental plans, and health spending account. There is a tuition waiver for RDP credit courses for you as well as your immediate family members, as well as opportunities for professional development funding. The Local Authorities Pension Plan is also offered as an option to those who have served a waiting period. There is paid time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and New Year general holidays. This position also offers an

additional 8% of the regular salary in lieu of vacation.
