Job Description:

This position provides support to the community and public health nursing programs in the Meadow Lake First Nations (MLFN’s) by working closely with the MLFN Nurses; MLTC Nursing Management Team; MLTC Health & Social Development staff; the Northern Inter-tribal Health Authority’s (NITHA); and acting as an MLTC Nursing representative to outside agencies.

The Community Health Nursing Supervisor provides program support to the mandatory public health programs of immunization and communicable disease control in all eight (8) Meadow Lake First Nations and provides ongoing assessment, monitoring and evaluation of individual community health/public health nurse’s practice in the four MLFN’s that do not have primary care nursing. This is to ensure that the MLFN nurse employees are applying their unique community nursing knowledge, skill and ability in meeting the health priorities of the community.

DUTIES (include but not limited to):

- The Community Health Nursing Supervisor assists with ensuring nursing coverage, recruitment and retention at the four communities MLFN sites.





- Maintain effective working relationship with MLTC employees and four FNs sites also supporting primary care sites’ community Nurses when required.

- Ensuring both qualified and community nursing practice (public health nursing) standards are being met in MLFN’s.

- Ongoing assessment and evaluation of community health nurses’ practice in relation to public health nursing standards and role.

- Acting as the clinical resource nurse on immunization and communicable disease programs.

- Works closely with Northern Intertribal Health Authority to ensure nurses have current, appropriate Inoculist/ immunization certificates.

- Monitoring and overseeing that the communicable disease control programming in MLFN’s is being carried out in accordance with public health standards and community health needs.

- Collaborating, planning and communicating with MLTC Nursing team, MLTC health director and senior management, MLFN health directors/coordinators on issues related to community health programs - immunization and communicable disease control-management

- Assisting in ongoing community health needs assessment and community health program planning.

- Assisting in identifying health and nursing service data that is relevant for monitoring community health program needs.





- Assessing need for and obtaining as required the necessary medical and nursing equipment in accordance with current community health nursing standards.

Travel Required: Yes

Education

- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (RN)
- Registered or eligible for registration with CRNS (College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan)

Competencies

- Combination of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Nursing; Supervision; and First Nation Health Management/Administration.

- Excellent interpersonal, time-management, and organizational skills; strong supervision/management skills; excellent communication (written/verbal) and presentation skills.

- Ability to work independently, and within a multidisciplinary health team.

- Demonstrated proficiency in computer software/hardware applications and programs.

- Will be knowledgeable and sensitive to First Nations’ culture and beliefs; issues and barriers.

- Ability to fluently speak and understand Cree/Dene is considered a valuable asset.

- Ability to travel extensively and possession of a valid driver’s license.

- Proficient with computers, i.e., Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
