Job Description:
Meadow Lake Tribal Council Health & Social Department is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual to fill a full-time, permanent position of Advanced Practice Nursing Supervisor.
The role of the Advance Practice Nursing Supervisor is to support community nursing activities that assist the MLFN’s to achieve their health goals based on the MLTC Health Plan. The MLFN’s vision of health, healing and wholeness is rooted in the traditional values of Cree and Dene cultures. The MLTC Community Nursing Program shares the belief with the MLFN’s that this vision can be achieved through a team-based community development approach that builds capacity in the individual, family and community. The Meadow Lake Tribal Council Nursing Program plays a supportive, supervisory, collaborative and pro-active role in the delivery of the community nursing services.
DUTIES (include but not limited to):
- Key Role: Supervises, assesses, facilitates, monitors and evaluates the unique practice of primary care nurses and monitors their role in meeting primary care nursing service needs of the community.
- Provides professional nursing support, nursing mentorship, program support, employee evaluations, leadership and supervision to the primary care nurse employees.
- Clinical expert and resource person the specialized practice of primary care nursing,
knowledgeable in community health nursing practice.
- Monitors Primary Care nursing practice in accordance with Accreditation Standards
- Supports Program Planning: Identifies potential gaps in health services
- Actively participates in the MLTC nursing recruitment, retention, training, and orientation.
- Plan, assess and recommend training needs with support all nursing staff at MLTC / MLFN
- Participates in development and implementation of nursing program policies and procedures.
- Represents MLTC/MLFN’s on local and regional committees whose activities and decisions affect primary care nursing practice and program development at the First Nation level
- Develop and implement Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program in each of the primary care site
- Assesses training needs with the support of full-time primary care nursing staff (Nurse In-charge) of all nursing staff of the four primary care centers and recommend relevant training programs.

Education
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (RN)
- Minimum:
- Registered or eligible for registration with CRNS (College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan)
- The scope of this position is RN AAP, however, RN’s willing to obtain RN AAP designation may be considered.
- Preferred:
- Registered or eligible for registration with CRNS (College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan)
with RN AAP (Advance Authorized Practice) or, Nurse Practitioner designation.

Other Education and Training
- Basic Life Support (BLS-C), Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and Immunization Certificate.
Competencies
- Minimum: 1 to 2 years Supervisory / Nurse in Charge experience
- Preferred: 3+ years Supervisory/Nurse in Charge experience
- Experienced in working northern First Nations
- Clinical expert and resource person in the specialized practice of primary care nursing
- Ability to speak/understand Cree/Dene and cultural competence is considered a valuable asset.
- Ability to travel extensively and possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Proficient with computers, i.e., Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook; including: Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and database management.
- Demonstrate capability and performance in the areas of: working with minimal supervision, excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills, initiative and adaptability, prioritizing multiple demands, working independently.
- Required Personal Characteristics: Trustworthy and respectful, approachable and accessible, adaptable, collaborative.
