Job Description: Summer Break Camps – Contract Instructor

Join our team this summer with the City of Kelowna’s Summer Break Camps! We’re looking for dynamic, motivated individuals who enjoy working with children and creating a safe, positive, and fun camp environment. As part of our passionate team, you’ll support school‑aged children through engaging activities, supervision, and hands‑on leadership.

About the Position

Part‑time Contract Instructors support the City’s Licensed Summer Break Camps. Instructors plan and deliver daily programming in line with the City’s childcare philosophy and licensing requirements. Responsibilities include providing guidance, supervision, behavioral support, and fostering a nurturing environment for children from kindergarten to age 12.

You will work under the Licensed Care Program Manager and the Community Recreation Coordinator, alongside a small team of instructors.

Camp Dates & Hours

- Program runs: July through August
- Shifts: Various shifts between 7:30am–5:30pm
- Hours: Vary depending on scheduling needs

Work Performed

- Plan and deliver daily Summer Break Camp activities
- Collaborate with staff and follow Licensing requirements




- Provide behavioral guidance and implement care plans
- Communicate with parents and caregivers
- Lead and supervise groups of children in a protected, engaging environment

Minimum Qualifications

- Must be 19 years or older
- Current First Aid/CPR with Emergency Child Care component
- Responsible Adult Certificate or 20 hours of equivalent training in child development, guidance, health & safety, or nutrition
- Ability, temperament, and personality suited to working with children
- Successful Child Care Criminal Record Check

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in Licensed Child Care or working with children
- Ability to independently lead groups of children ages 6–12
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Effective problem‑solving skills and sound judgment

Contract Details

This is a contract position with the City of Kelowna. Contracts are reviewed and renewed on a seasonal basis.

Starting Pay

$19.25/hour + 4% in lieu of benefits and pension + ECE Wage Enhancement if applicable

Pay: $19.00-$19.75 per hour
