Yellowknife Catholic Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Music teacher for Grades K-5 to join our elementary team for the upcoming school year.

The Position

This position reports to the Principal. The music teacher will foster a joyful and inclusive learning environment where students from K to grades 5 can explore their musical talents, develop rhythmic and melodic literacy, and gain a lifelong appreciation for the arts. They will be responsible for designing and implementing engaging, age-appropriate music lessons following the NWT Art Education curriculum. This teacher will also be tasked with directing and coordinating school-wide musical events, including concerts, assemblies, and special ceremonies. The music teacher will also be required to manage and maintain the inventory of school instruments and audio equipment.

Our district has three schools and one technical center with approximately 230 staff members and 1500 students. We offer programming in English and French from JK - 12, as well as Core Willideh Yati and Core French. We have a strong Indigenous Language and Culture Education program that combines the Dene Kede curriculum and on-the-land experiences with traditional ways of knowing and doing. As a district, we are committed to deepening our work in recognizing the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions Calls to Action.

Yellowknife offers many opportunities during all seasons from enjoying the midnight sun while fishing on the lake, golfing on our unique course, aurora hunting and ice fishing in the winter, or swimming, hiking, skiing, canoeing, and kayaking around our excellent region; the Chief Drygeese Territory in the Akaitcho region, the traditional lands of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation.

Yellowknife also offers many city recreational sports such as hockey, curling, soccer, frisbee, touch football, volleyball, basketball, and tennis. We have several fitness facilities and have a very vibrant community of the arts.

Required Education and Recommended Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience

- Must hold, or be eligible for a(n) NWT Teaching Certificate
- Bachelor of Education Degree
- Preference will be given to those with experience teaching middle school (Grade K-5)
- Understands how to integrate spirituality and faith into teaching practices
- Knowledge of,



and experience in the effective use of technology as a learning tool
- Experience teaching in a northern communities and an understanding of Indigenous cultures would be an asset
- A vulnerable sector check is a requirement

Required Skills and Abilities

- Demonstrated ability to work as part of an effective school team
- Must work as a team member in planning, delivery and assessment of programs and students
- Organizational skills, initiative and a strong team focus are required

Pay: $88,064.00-$151,225.00 per year
