Position Summary
The Supervising Bartender is responsible for leading bar operations at Nepean Sailing Club, ensuring efficient service, high-quality beverage standards, and an exceptional member and guest experience. This role combines hands-on bartending with team supervision, inventory control, and adherence to Ontario liquor regulations.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader who thrives in a fast-paced, seasonal waterfront setting and is committed to maintaining a welcoming, professional club atmosphere.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Supervision
- Supervise and support bartenders and service staff during shifts
- Lead by example in service standards, professionalism, and teamwork
- Assist with training, coaching, and performance feedback
- Conduct or support pre-shift meetings and communicate daily priorities
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and smooth shift transitions
Bar Operations
- Oversee daily bar setup, service, and closing procedures
- Ensure consistency in drink preparation, presentation, and portion control
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of bar areas in accordance with health standards
- Monitor pace of service to ensure efficiency without compromising quality
Member & Guest Experience
- Deliver friendly, engaging, and professional service to members and guests
- Foster a “club atmosphere” that is welcoming, inclusive, and community-focused
- Address and resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally
- Support club events, regattas, and high-volume service periods
Inventory & Cost Control
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering and receiving
- Track and control beverage costs, waste, and shrinkage
- Ensure proper storage and rotation of stock (FIFO principles)
- Maintain accurate records and assist with periodic inventory counts
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with Ontario liquor laws and Smart Serve requirements
- Monitor responsible alcohol service and intervene when necessary
- Enforce club policies and procedures consistently
- Maintain a safe and respectful workplace in accordance with Ontario health & safety standards
Qualifications
- Minimum 4-5 years bartending experience, with supervisory experience preferred
- Valid Smart Serve Certification (Ontario)
- Strong knowledge of beer, wine, spirits, and cocktail preparation
- Leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays (seasonal peak periods)

Working Conditions

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 35 per week
