Responsibilities (detailed tasks)

nInspect products to determine the requirements for repairn

Products are stringed instruments and bows

n

Repair or replace defective or worn-out parts and components using hand, power or specially designed tools,



including:

n

Repairing, resealing, reinforcing cracks, structural and domestic damage to high trade and client standards, replacing damaged parts of the instrument by customizing new pieces and blending them with the old parts

n

Grafting new necks to existing scrolls and bodies of the instrument

n

Replacing bass bars and fingerboards, ensuring precise adherence to instrument measurements, geometrical principles (including the Golden Triangle), stress points, and structural integrity to ensure correct playability

n

Regraduating of instrument plates where required

n

Conducting tone regulation and instrument setup

n

Re-hair, repair and restore bows for all string instruments

n

Installing recent tips (bone), new lapping (silk or silver) and leather grips on bows

n

Re-cambering warped bows

n

Repair/splice broken sticks

nRepair cracks in ebony frogn

Test and adjust repaired products for proper functioning

n

Calibrate products using hand tools

n

Perform routine maintenance

n

Tone adjustments as necessary

nPrepare written estimates of repair costsn

Including disassembly, repair work and re-assembly and final setup

n
