About the Position

Halifax Freight Solutions is looking for a reliable, hands-on Yard Foreman to oversee daily yard operations and help keep our warehouse and transportation activities running smoothly. This individual will be responsible for planning and coordinating daily yard tasks, operating forklifts and other equipment, communicating with drivers and team members, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.

The ideal candidate is organized, takes initiative, has strong communication skills, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced trucking and logistics environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan, organize, and oversee daily yard activities to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Operate forklifts and other yard equipment to move, load, unload, and position freight and materials.
- Coordinate daily workloads and assign tasks to yard personnel based on operational priorities.
- Follow and execute daily schedules, ensuring pickups, deliveries, loading, unloading, and other yard activities stay on track.
- Communicate regularly with truck drivers, dispatch, warehouse staff, and management to coordinate movements and daily requirements.
- Direct drivers upon arrival and ensure they are aware of loading, unloading, and staging instructions.
- Monitor yard activity and adjust plans as needed to accommodate changing priorities or unexpected delays.




- Ensure freight and equipment are properly positioned, handled, and stored.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard workplace.
- Ensure proper handling of cargo and follow company safety procedures at all times.
- Identify operational issues and communicate concerns or delays to management.
- Assist with hands-on yard work as required.

Qualifications & Experience

- Previous experience in a yard, warehouse, trucking, or logistics environment.
- Experience operating forklifts; valid forklift certification is an asset.
- Strong understanding of safe material handling and yard operations.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks throughout the day.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with drivers and team members.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and make decisions when required.
- Reliable, punctual and organized.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
