Location:
Toronto, ON and Ottawa, ON

Job type
Full-time, Permanent About GeoTerra GeoTerra is a growing engineering and environmental firm providing geotechnical, environmental, hydrogeological, and remediation services. We also own and operate our own water treatment units, allowing us to deliver groundwater treatment and discharge solutions in-house. We work with developers, contractors, property owners, and public-sector clients to deliver practical solutions from due diligence through construction. With offices in Toronto, Ottawa, and Morocco, our team supports projects across Ontario, Quebec and internationally. We are looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist / Hydrogeology Practice Lead, based in our Toronto or Ottawa office, who wants to build something: grow a hydrogeology team, develop new and existing client relationships, and expand our hydrogeology services. The opportunity This is a role for someone who is motivated by growing a practice, not just delivering projects. You will lead hydrogeological investigations and groundwater management work while taking real ownership of developing the team behind it and the client base it serves. That means mentoring and hiring staff, building lasting relationships with developers, contractors, and public-sector clients, and identifying new opportunities to bring our hydrogeology services to more projects. We are looking for someone who combines sound technical judgment with the drive to build a team and a client base, and who can translate field data into clear recommendations that help clients manage water, control costs, and move projects forward.

Key responsibilities

- Lead hydrogeological investigations for land development, deep excavations, infrastructure, and environmental projects.
- Develop and oversee field programs, including monitoring well installations, groundwater monitoring, hydraulic testing, pumping tests, and groundwater sampling.
- Assess groundwater conditions,

estimate construction dewatering requirements, and evaluate potential effects on neighbouring properties, infrastructure, surface water, and other sensitive receptors.
- Develop practical dewatering and groundwater management strategies with our geotechnical, environmental, and construction teams.
- Lead the preparation and technical review of hydrogeological reports, water balances, impact assessments, monitoring programs, and permit and approval documentation.
- Support groundwater treatment and discharge planning using our in-house treatment units, and lead contaminated groundwater investigations.
- Provide senior technical guidance during construction and help resolve challenging groundwater conditions.
- Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and client communications.
- Build and grow client relationships, prepare proposals, and pursue new opportunities.
- Mentor and develop staff, lead recruitment, and establish consistent technical and quality standards.
- Work with company leadership to grow the hydrogeology practice and achieve revenue, profitability, and service objectives. Qualifications
- Degree in hydrogeology, geology, geological engineering, environmental engineering, or a related discipline. A graduate degree is an asset.
- Professional registration as a P.
Geo. or P.
Eng. in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain registration.
- At least 10 years of relevant hydrogeology consulting experience, including leading hydrogeological investigations and managing projects.
- Strong experience with construction dewatering assessments, aquifer testing, water treatment, groundwater monitoring, and interpretation of hydrogeological data.

- Working knowledge of Ontario groundwater permitting, water taking, and discharge requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and review clear, technically sound reports.
- Experience working directly with developers, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
- Robust commercial judgment and the ability to balance technical requirements with schedules and budgets.
- A genuine interest in building a team and growing a client base, with a track record of developing staff and winning repeat or new work.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites across Ontario. Assets: Groundwater modelling, fractured bedrock, contaminated groundwater, water treatment, or complex urban excavations. Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset, particularly for the Ottawa office and collaboration with our Morocco team. What makes this role different
- A direct role in building and leading a growing practice.
- Influence over hiring, technical standards, service offerings, and business strategy.
- In-house water treatment units, giving you direct control over treatment and discharge solutions from design through construction.
- Close collaboration with company leadership and multidisciplinary project teams.
- A mix of technical work, construction problem-solving, client management, and business development.
- The opportunity to see your recommendations applied in the field.
