Help shape what’s next for Homeward
Homeward Public Affairs is a fast-growing Canadian public affairs consultancy with an ambitious vision for the future.
We work with nonprofits, First Nations, social enterprises, and other mission-driven organizations to help them navigate government, influence public policy, and advance initiatives that make a meaningful difference in communities across Canada.
Since our founding in 2024, we’ve built an exceptional client portfolio, assembled a talented team, and established a reputation for thoughtful, effective government relations and strategic advice.
Now, we’re looking for someone who can help us take the next big step.
We’re recruiting a Director of Marketing & Communications to strengthen Homeward’s presence in the marketplace, create new opportunities for growth, and help shape the future of our business.
This is an opportunity for an experienced, entrepreneurial professional to take ownership of a critical function at an exciting moment in our development.
The opportunity
We have big ambitions for Homeward, and we’re looking for someone who shares our enthusiasm for building something exceptional.
Working directly with our Founder & CEO and senior leadership team, you’ll develop and lead our approach to marketing and corporate communications, and support the growth and development of our business.
You’ll have the autonomy to challenge our thinking, introduce new ideas, identify opportunities we haven’t considered, and reinforce our market position.
We’re looking for someone who combines strategic judgment with exceptional execution. Someone who can develop a compelling plan, explain what it will take to succeed, and personally lead the work required to make it happen.
You won’t be inheriting a large marketing department or an established playbook. You’ll have the opportunity to help create the systems, strategies, and capabilities that will support Homeward’s continued growth.
What you’ll do
- Lead our marketing strategy. Enhance our approach to strengthening Homeward’s brand, market positioning, and visibility. Identify priority audiences, evaluate opportunities, and recommend where we should focus our resources to achieve the greatest impact.
- Build our thought leadership and digital presence. Take ownership of our corporate communications, social media, website content, and thought-leadership initiatives. Develop and execute engaging content and campaigns that showcase our expertise and connect us with the organizations and decision-makers we want to reach.
- Position our leadership team for success. Work closely with our CEO and senior consultants to identify opportunities for media commentary, speaking engagements, articles, industry events,
and other activities that strengthen Homeward’s reputation. Help determine where our leaders should be contributing, prepare them to do so effectively, and maximize the value of their involvement.
- Support business development and growth. Collaborate with our executive and consulting teams to identify prospective clients, develop targeted outreach initiatives, strengthen proposals and presentations, and build more effective business development processes. Help us translate our relationships, expertise, and market presence into new opportunities.
- Help identify what’s next. Bring a commercial perspective to emerging markets, potential service offerings, partnerships, and new ways Homeward can deliver value to the organizations we serve.
- Take ownership and deliver. Manage priorities, budgets, campaigns, and day-to-day execution with a high degree of independence. You’ll be comfortable writing and publishing content, making routine website updates, working with established design templates, and coordinating specialized external support when required.
Who we’re looking for We’re interested in candidates with substantial experience in marketing, communications, and business development, particularly in professional services, consulting, public affairs, or other expertise-driven organizations.
Above all, we’re looking for someone with the ability and ambition to make a meaningful contribution.
You’ll bring:
- Strategic expertise: Demonstrated experience developing and executing marketing strategies that deliver measurable results.
- Exceptional communications skills: Outstanding writing, editing, storytelling, and the ability to translate complex subjects into compelling content.
- Digital marketing experience: Strong knowledge of social media strategy, particularly LinkedIn, content marketing, digital campaigns, and audience development.
- Commercial judgment: An understanding of how marketing supports business development, strengthens client relationships, and creates opportunities for growth.
- Initiative and independence: The confidence to advise senior leaders, challenge assumptions, establish priorities, and take responsibility for outcomes.
- A hands-on approach: A genuine willingness to do the work, not simply develop strategies for others to execute.
Experience in public policy, government relations, or the nonprofit sector would be an asset, but isn’t essential.
Someone located in Ottawa would be ideal.
We value demonstrated achievement, sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, and qualified ambition more than a particular job title or career path.
Why join Homeward?
- Help build something meaningful. You’ll join a company with considerable momentum and the opportunity to influence its next stage of development.
- Have a genuine voice in the business. You’ll work directly with our founder and senior leadership, with meaningful autonomy and the ability to shape important decisions.
- Make an impact beyond the bottom line. Our clients are addressing some of Canada’s most consequential challenges. Helping Homeward grow means helping more of those organizations advance their work.
- Grow with us. As Homeward expands, so will the opportunities to develop new capabilities, take on greater leadership responsibilities, and build a team around the function you help establish.
- Enjoy a supportive, rewarding workplace. We believe in investing in talented people, recognizing exceptional contributions, and giving our team the flexibility and support they need to do outstanding work.
Compensation and benefits We offer a comprehensive compensation package designed to recognize and reward exceptional talent:
- Annual base salary: $105,000–$120,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Performance bonus: Eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus, providing an opportunity to earn additional compensation.
- Retirement savings: Employer-funded RRSP benefit equivalent to 5% of annual base salary.
- Health benefits: Comprehensive health and medical spending benefits administered through Tedy.
- Paid time off: Four weeks of total paid time off, in accordance with Homeward’s policies.
- Additional support: Telephone and internet allowance, professional development opportunities, and meaningful career advancement potential.
