Are you an experienced sub-metering engineer?
We’re looking for an ambitious, full time Sub-Metering Engineer to join Kendra. You’ll help deliver accurate, reliable energy data for commercial and industrial customers by surveying, installing, commissioning, validating and maintaining multi-utility sub-metering systems.
Working closely with customers and Kendra’s project, account management, administration, BEMS and energy teams, you’ll take ownership of work on site and help turn metering data into practical insight, energy savings and improved building performance.
What you’ll need
- A recognised UK electrical Level 3 apprenticeship, JIB-approved qualification or equivalent practical competence relevant to the role.
- A current BS 7671 qualification and a strong working knowledge of electrical safety, isolation and safe systems of work.
- Practical experience installing and working with electrical sub-meters, current transformers and associated communications equipment in commercial or industrial environments.
- Experience of cable runs, containment, panel work and metering network installation to a consistently high standard.
- Knowledge of metering communications and integration, including M-Bus and Modbus.
- Experience with Ethernet, wireless or LoRaWAN communications would be advantageous.
- An understanding of heat, cooling, gas and water metering would be advantageous.
- Ability to complete basic mechanical and electrical surveys, interpret drawings and identify installation or data-quality issues.
- Previous field-service experience in a customer-facing role, with the ability to work independently and manage priorities without close supervision.
- A flexible, self-motivated and proactive approach, with clear written and verbal communication skills.
- A full UK driving licence. A current ECS or CSCS card would be advantageous.
What you’ll be doing
- Attending customer sites to familiarise yourself with buildings, assets, existing metering systems and the agreed scope of works.
- Completing sub-metering surveys and validation activities,
recording clear and accurate information on electrical and mechanical services, meter locations, communications infrastructure and installation condition.
- Installing electrical meters, current transformers, communications devices, cable runs, containment and network infrastructure in accordance with the design, Kendra procedures and recognised best practice.
- Supporting the installation, validation and commissioning of heat, cooling, gas and water meters where required and within your competence.
- Configuring and commissioning metering and communications equipment so that accurate data is available to Kendra or customer platforms.
- Testing and validating meter readings, ratios, polarity, phase allocation, engineering units, communications and data flow, and resolving faults or escalating them with clear evidence.
- Producing clear and concise survey, installation, commissioning and service reports that demonstrate the value delivered by Kendra.
- Taking ownership of allocated work, meeting contractual requirements and maintaining a best-in-class level of customer service.
- Working closely with customers to identify and resolve operational issues, while maintaining positive relationships with site teams and other contractors.
- Collaborating with project, account management, BEMS, energy, software and administration teams to ensure installations are delivered safely, accurately and efficiently.
- Proactively identifying opportunities for metering improvements, remedial works, upgrades, maintenance, energy savings or wider building-performance support.
- Supporting and mentoring less-experienced team members and sharing technical knowledge across the business.
- Developing your technical and industry knowledge through manufacturer training and continued professional development.
Health, safety and quality
- Maintaining full awareness of health and safety requirements before, during and after every site visit.
- Reviewing and signing onto risk assessments and method statements before starting work, confirming site acknowledgement where required.
- Assessing the work area for changes or additional hazards and completing or requesting a suitable workplace risk assessment before continuing.
- Stopping work where safety standards are not being followed or where risks cannot be adequately controlled.
- Keeping required training, certification and competence records current.
- Following company policies, standard operating procedures, quality requirements and customer site rules at all times.
What success looks like
- Safe, compliant work delivered in line with the agreed scope, programme and quality standard.
- Accurate, complete and trustworthy metering data reaching the intended monitoring platform.
- Clear documentation that enables efficient handover, support and future maintenance.
- Prompt resolution or effective escalation of installation, commissioning and data-quality issues.
- Positive feedback from customers, project teams and internal stakeholders.
- Identification of practical opportunities that improve system reliability, energy visibility and customer value.
What you’ll get
- Competitive salary.
- Company car or allowance.
- Local travel wherever possible.
- Private healthcare for you and your family, including access to an online private GP.
- Annual bonus and healthy reward scheme through the healthcare provider.
- Long-service rewards, including additional leave after five years’ service.
- Option to buy additional annual leave or sell unused leave.
- Personal development plan and investment in technical and personal development training.
- Participation in the employee referral scheme.
- A supportive team and working environment with opportunities to contribute to Kendra’s growing metering and wider building-performance offering.
