Experienced Specialty Coffee Barista – Full-Time / Part-Time (3 + years experirnce Required)

Lovelarte Coffee Inc.

Location: 101–345 Robson Street, Vancouver, BC

About the Position

Lovelarte Coffee is looking for a highly skilled, experienced, and passionate Specialty Coffee Barista to join our team at our busy downtown Vancouver café.

We are looking for a true coffee professional who understands specialty coffee, takes pride in the quality of every drink, and has extensive hands-on experience working with professional espresso equipment.

This is NOT an entry-level position. We are looking for an experienced barista with strong, current technical skills who can confidently work independently on a professional espresso bar.

Professional Experience – Mandatory To be considered for this position, applicants must meet ALL of the following requirements:

- Minimum 3 years of professional, hands-on barista experience, preferably in specialty coffee shops.
- Recent professional barista experience is essential. Applicants must have worked regularly as a barista for at least 6 months within the past 12 months.
- Strong experience working with professional manual or semi-automatic espresso machines. Experience with La Marzocco is highly preferred.
- Ability to independently prepare high-quality espresso drinks and maintain consistent standards during busy service.
- Excellent practical skills in espresso extraction, grinder calibration, milk steaming, and latte art.

Please note: Barista experience gained several years ago, without recent hands-on professional practice, does not meet our requirements. Experience limited to fully automatic coffee machines or preset drink programs is not sufficient for this position.

Essential Technical Skills

1. Espresso Preparation and Grinder Calibration

Candidates must be able to:

- Independently dial in espresso grinders and adjust grind settings.
- Understand and control espresso dose,

yield, extraction time, and flavour balance.
- Identify and correct under-extracted and over-extracted espresso.
- Adjust espresso recipes when necessary to maintain consistent quality.
- Work confidently with skilled espresso machines, preferably La Marzocco.
- Maintain espresso consistency throughout the day, including during busy service.

2. Professional Milk Steaming and Latte Art

Candidates must demonstrate

- Excellent milk-steaming and microfoam-texturing skills.
- Confidence working with whole milk and alternative milks, including oat, almond, and soy.
- Ability to adjust steaming techniques for different types of milk.
- Ability to consistently produce smooth, silky microfoam with correct texture and temperature.
- Strong latte art skills, including hearts, tulips, and rosettas.
- Ability to maintain drink presentation and quality even during high-volume service.

3. Specialty Coffee Knowledge

- Strong understanding of specialty coffee and professional brewing standards.
- Knowledge of coffee origins, roast profiles, and flavour characteristics.
- Understanding of how grind size, extraction variables, and brewing techniques affect coffee flavour.
- Ability to recognize flavour imbalances and make appropriate adjustments.
- Genuine passion for coffee and interest in continuously developing professional coffee knowledge.

4. Speed, Consistency, and Professional Workflow

- Ability to independently manage the espresso station during busy periods.
- Prepare multiple drinks efficiently without compromising quality.

- Follow recipes and maintain consistent drink standards.
- Keep equipment, grinders, and workstations clean and properly maintained.
- Work efficiently as part of a team in a fast-paced café environment.
- Communicate confidently and professionally with customers and coworkers.

Additional Requirements
- Strong English communication skills.
- Previous experience in a busy specialty coffee shop.
- Excellent customer service and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Availability to work weekends and public holidays.
- Valid authorization to work in Canada, preferably for at least the next 12 months.
- Interest in long-term employment and professional development.

Important Information for Applicants We are specifically looking for an experienced specialty coffee professional, not someone who simply knows how to operate a coffee machine.

This position requires current, well-developed professional barista skills.

We are not offering beginner-level barista training for this position.

Applicants must already be confident in espresso calibration, professional milk steaming, latte art, and independently operating an espresso station.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to demonstrate their practical coffee preparation skills during a barista skills assessment.

If you have a genuine passion for specialty coffee, strong recent professional experience, and take pride in consistently preparing exceptional coffee, we would love to hear from you.

Please apply only if you meet the professional experience and technical requirements listed above.
