ABOUT QSA
QSA is an Atlantic Canadian life safety and security integrator, independently owned and operated since 1971. We serve hospitals, schools, government facilities, and commercial buildings across Atlantic Canada.
We design, install, inspect, and support critical infrastructure - including fire alarm, nurse call, access control, CCTV, intrusion, public address, and monitoring systems. We prioritize strong partnerships with top-tier global manufacturers and trusted Canadian-owned suppliers to deliver solutions our communities rely on every day.
Every project we deliver starts with your number and your scope. When your numbers and scope are exact, our install teams deliver the job as sold, our customers get what they were promised, and QSA grows on work we are proud of.
HOW WE WORK
At QSA, care is how we work. We expect every person on the team to care about five things:
- Care for Self / Your Own Work: You take pride in precision, you double-check your takeoffs, and you own it if something is missed.
- Care for Teammates: You share product knowledge, communicate clearly with operations and sales, and elevate those around you.
- Care for Company: You treat QSA’s name, time, and margins as if they were your own.
- Care for Customers: You remember that real people - nurses, teachers, and facilities teams - rely on the systems we price.
- Care for Community: You take pride in protecting the Atlantic Canadian communities where we live and work.
If you do not feel aligned to caring for your work, your team, the company, our customers, and our community, this is not the place for you. If you do, we would love to meet you.
THE ROLE
This is hands-on low voltage and life safety estimating across diverse commercial and institutional systems:
- Fire: code-compliant fire alarm and detection systems
- Security: Access control, CCTV and intrusion detection
- Public address and sound: School PA, intercom, mass notification, and audio systems
- Healthcare systems: Nurse call, staff duress, emergency call, and clinical communication platforms
You do not need to be a master in every product line on day one, but you must have the discipline to learn each platform well enough to price equipment and labor accurately.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Manage Opportunity Intake: Receive, log,
and prioritize incoming RFPs, tenders, and requests for quotes (RFQs). Keep clear visibility on submission dates, progress, and pending vendor information.
- Determine Fit: Evaluate incoming bids against QSA’s core capabilities to focus our energy on high-value fits.
- Verify Package Completeness: Catch scope gaps, missing documents, or conflicts early so RFIs can be submitted well before the deadline.
- Build Exact Takeoffs & Estimates: Perform precise material takeoffs and estimate labor, cabling, devices, headend hardware, programming, and commissioning time.
- Define Scope & Assumptions Transparent as Day: Clearly distinguish between turnkey installation bids versus parts-only supply quotes, stating all inclusions, exclusions, and pricing assumptions.
- Vendor & Supplier Coordination: Work with distributors and manufacturers to secure competitive pricing and factor in realistic product lead times.
- Seamless Hand-Off to Operations: Partner directly with the Head of Ops on won bids to walk through scheduling nuances, long-lead items for warehouse kitting, and labor/scope breakdown for field technicians.
- Maintain Pricing Intelligence: Keep clear records of historic estimates, win/loss data, and actual vs. estimated job costs in our systems to continuously sharpen pricing precision.
- Fix It Fast & Own It: Acknowledge missing scope or errors quickly, adjust with the team, and refine processes so errors don't repeat
WHO YOU ARE
- You Default to Precision: "Close enough" isn't in your vocabulary. You double-check part numbers, quantities, labor hours, and addenda.
- You Read the Whole Package: You don't just look at the floor plans - you read all specifications, general conditions, and every addendum line by line.
- You Care About Servicing the Customer:
You look beyond part numbers to ensure what we price solves the customer's real-world operational needs and sets up long-term service success.
- You Thrive in High Context-Switching: You have the mental agility to pivot between totally different technical frameworks, vendor ecosystems, and code requirements without missing a detail.
- You Think Like an Installer: You estimate with field realities in mind, understanding what technicians need on-site to wire, program, and commission a job.
- You Manage Your Pipeline: You balance multiple fast-moving tenders simultaneously without letting detail or quality slip.
- Low Ego & High Accountability: You care more about QSA delivering a successful, profitable project than about who gets the credit. When something goes wrong, you own it and fix it.
THE BASICS
- Experience: Proven low voltage, electrical, or integrated security/life safety estimating experience.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read drawings/specs; proficiency with takeoff tools (e.g., Procore) and spreadsheets.
- Education: C.E.T. diploma, B.Sc. in Electrical/Systems Engineering (EIT/P.Eng.), Red Seal Electrical Journeyman/Master Electrician, or equivalent proven estimating experience.
- Location & Travel: Fredericton, NB preferred (Office/Hybrid). Occasional site walk-throughs across Atlantic Canada (valid driver's license required).

Instead of a generic cover letter, please include brief answers to two questions:

- Before you price a complex tender, what specific steps do you take to confirm the bid package is 100% complete?
