Kennel Technician / Training Assistant – Arsenal Canine Academy

[Calgary, AB] · Full-time · $17–$25/hour depending on role and experience

Read this first

This is not a "play with puppies" job. You'll be on your feet all shift, cleaning kennels, handling strong and sometimes reactive dogs, and working weekends. Some days are loud, messy and stressful. If that sounds like too much, this isn't the job for you, and that's okay.

If it sounds like a challenge you want, keep reading.

What you'll do

Feed, medicate and care for board-and-train and boarding dogs

Keep kennels clean and safe to a written standard

Run turnouts, enrichment and dog rotations

Support our trainers with sessions, notes and video documentation

Flag anything off with a dog's health or behaviour right away

Where this job can take you

Most kennel jobs stop at kennel jobs. Ours doesn't. Arsenal has a written path with clear criteria at every step:

Kennel Technician → Training Assistant → Trainer → Senior Trainer → Head Trainer

Every step comes with a raise. Nobody has to guess what it takes to move up.

The Arsenal certification

We train dogs with our own written system. You'll be certified in it on paid time. Pass the certification and you get a wage increase. It's a real credential, not just "on-the-job training."

What we offer

$17–$21/hour for Kennel Technician,

$22–$25/hour for Training Assistant

Paid certification in the Arsenal system

Explicit advancement with a raise at each level

Discounted boarding and training for your own dog

Continuing education

30/60/90-day check-ins, so you're never left guessing how you're doing

Who we're looking for

You show up on time, every time

You take feedback and use it

You stay calm and think clearly when things go sideways

You notice what needs doing without being told

Dog handling experience is a plus, but work ethic matters more

Vet tech, grooming or animal care background is an asset

Send your resume and a few sentences on the hardest job you've ever had and why you stuck with it, or why you didn't. Applications without this won't be considered.
