Job Overview

We are seeking a reliable, hands-on, and responsible Live-In Building Janitor & Maintenance Technician for a new building opening in October 2026 in Centretown, Ottawa.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and general upkeep of the building, including approximately 20,000 square feet of common areas and an indoor parking garage.

This position combines daily janitorial duties with general building maintenance, minor repairs, and after-hours emergency response when required.

A studio apartment within the building will be provided as part of the live-in arrangement.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, is comfortable working independently, has practical maintenance skills, and understands the importance of keeping a residential building clean, safe, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cleaning & Janitorial Duties

- Thoroughly clean and maintain approximately 20,000 square feet of common areas throughout the building.
- Clean and maintain the lobby, hallways, corridors, elevators, stairwells, amenity spaces, and other shared areas.
- Sweep, clean, and maintain the indoor parking garage.
- Remove litter, debris, and dirt from common areas and parking facilities.
- Maintain clean and presentable floors, surfaces, doors, windows, and other shared spaces.
- Monitor the building's cleanliness and address issues promptly.
- Maintain a consistently high standard of cleanliness throughout the property.

2. General Building Maintenance

- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs throughout the building.
- Complete painting, paint touch-ups, patching, and other cosmetic repairs.




- Perform minor plumbing repairs and troubleshooting, within applicable qualifications and safety requirements.
- Perform basic electrical maintenance and troubleshooting within applicable qualifications and safety requirements.
- Identify building deficiencies and report issues requiring specialized contractors.
- Assist with flooring repairs and replacement. Experience changing or installing flooring is a strong asset.
- Conduct regular visual inspections of common areas and building facilities.
- Help ensure the building's fixtures, finishes, and equipment remain in good condition.

3. Building Operations & Emergency Response

- Reside on-site in the provided studio apartment.
- Be available after hours to respond to building emergencies as required.
- Respond to urgent maintenance issues, including leaks and other building-related problems, within the scope of training and qualifications.
- Notify building management of significant problems and coordinate with qualified contractors when necessary.
- Help maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for residents and visitors.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Previous experience in janitorial services, building maintenance, property maintenance, or a similar position.
- Robust cleaning skills and attention to detail.
- Hands-on experience with painting, touch-ups, and general repairs.
- Basic plumbing and electrical maintenance knowledge.
- Flooring installation or replacement experience is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and manage daily responsibilities.
- Reliable,



organized, trustworthy, and proactive.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to recognize maintenance issues before they become major problems.
- Good communication skills and a professional attitude.
- Willingness to live on-site and respond to after-hours emergencies as required.
- Ability to perform the physical duties associated with cleaning and general maintenance.
