Edmonton

Merrick Global Talent is recruiting a Rheumatologist to join a specialist multidisciplinary clinic in Edmonton, Alberta.

The position offers the chance to develop a community-based Rheumatology practice within an organisation focused specifically on neurological and musculoskeletal medicine.

Rather than working as a standalone specialty, you will have access to Diagnostic Imaging, Physiatry, Neurology, Sports Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery, Pain Medicine, physiotherapy and allied health services within the wider clinic.

The role

You will assess, diagnose and manage patients with rheumatological conditions within a predominantly outpatient setting.

Your work will include

- Providing specialist Rheumatology consultations.
- Assessing and managing inflammatory and other rheumatological presentations within your scope of practice.
- Working with referring Family Physicians and specialist colleagues.
- Collaborating with Physiatrists, Neurologists, Sports Medicine Physicians, Orthopaedic Surgeons and other clinicians.
- Accessing diagnostic imaging where appropriate.
- Coordinating patient care with rehabilitation and allied health services where relevant.
- Developing your own referral base and areas of specialist clinical interest.

The wider clinic already works extensively with patients experiencing joint, muscle, connective tissue and other neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, creating a natural environment for Rheumatology to sit alongside related specialties.

Who can apply?

Canadian-trained Rheumatologists and physicians already eligible for specialist practice in Alberta are welcome to apply.

Internationally trained Rheumatologists may also be considered through Alberta's Approved Jurisdiction Route.

Recognised Rheumatology training currently includes eligible pathways from:

- United Kingdom
- Ireland
- Australia and New Zealand
- United States
- Singapore
- South Africa
- Switzerland

UK-trained Rheumatologists may qualify where their training falls within the recognised Royal Colleges of Physicians and higher medical training pathway. Ireland has a separate recognised Royal College of Physicians of Ireland pathway, while Australia, the US and the other approved jurisdictions have their own certification requirements.

For US-trained physicians, eligible Rheumatology certification through the American Board or American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine is included within the current approved list.

CPSA reviews each physician individually and confirms whether the Approved Jurisdiction Route applies.

Why consider this role?

The multidisciplinary structure is particularly relevant to Rheumatology.

Patients can access specialist assessment, imaging, rehabilitation and related medical specialties within the wider organisation, allowing you to work closely with the clinicians involved in other parts of their care.

For a Rheumatologist interested in community practice, the position offers the opportunity to develop a practice within a clinic already focused heavily on musculoskeletal medicine.

Merrick Global Talent will also support internationally trained specialists with understanding the Alberta registration process and relocation requirements.
