TheCityofOwenSoundisseekingamotivatedandsafety-focusedprofessionaltojoinourWater&Wastewaterteamasa;WaterDistributionOperator .ReportingtotheWaterDistributionSuperintendentandreceivingdailydirectionfromtheWaterDistributionLeadHand,thispositionplaysacriticalroleindeliveringsafe,reliabledrinkingwatertoourcommunitythroughtheoperation,maintenance,andrepairoftheCity'swaterdistributioninfrastructure.

Thispositionisresponsibleformaintainingwaterdistributionassets,respondingtoemergenciesandcustomerconcerns,participatinginon-calloperations,andensuringcompliancewithprovincialregulationsandindustrybestpractices.Thispositionisbeingpostedforanexistingvacancy.

WhatYou’llDo

WaterDistributionOperations&Maintenance;

- Operate,maintain,andrepairwaterdistributioninfrastructure,includingwatermains,valves,hydrants,waterservices,pressureregulatingvalves,andwatermeters.
- Install,inspect,andmaintainfirehydrantsandassociatedinfrastructure.
- Troubleshootandrepairwaterleaksthroughoutthedistributionsystem.
- Assistwithinspectionsandroutineoperationsatreservoirs,pumpingstations,valvechambers,andtheWaterTreatmentPlant.
- Participateinplannedmaintenanceactivitiesandemergencysystemshutdownsorbypassesasrequired.

EquipmentOperation&InfrastructureSupport;

- Safelyoperateequipmentandvehiclesusedinwaterdistributionmaintenance,includingbackhoes,dumptrucks,tappingmachines,leakdetectionequipment,andutilitylocatingequipment.
- Locateundergroundwaterinfrastructure,streetlighting,andtrafficsignalassets.
- Assistwithwintermaintenanceofhydrants,includingsnowclearingandinspections.
- Performtrafficcontrolactivitiesandroadclosurecoordinationasrequired.
- Supportsnowclearingoperationsonsidewalksandroadwayswhenneeded.

CustomerService&EmergencyResponse;

- Respondtocustomerinquiriesandservicerequestsrelatedtoflooding,waterserviceinterruptions,leaks,lowpressure,frozenservices,andotherdistributionconcerns.
- Participateinarotatingon-callscheduletorespondtoafter-hoursemergencies.
- Assistinmaintainingreliablewaterserviceduringemergenciesandplannedmaintenanceactivities.
- Workcollaborativelywithcontractors,Citystaff,regulatoryofficials,andthepublic.

Compliance,Documentation&AssetManagement;





- Maintainaccuratelogs,records,servicecards,fieldnotes,anddistributionsystemdocumentation.
- UpdateGISrecordsanddistributionsysteminformationwheninfrastructurechangesoccur.
- Completerequiredregulatoryandoperationaldocumentation.
- ParticipateinongoingtrainingandcertificationrequirementsinaccordancewithProvincialregulations.
- SupportcontinuousimprovementandassetmanagementinitiativeswithintheWaterDistributionSystem.

- PerformallworkinaccordancewithCitypolicies,procedures,andtheOccupationalHealthandSafetyAct.
- Participateactivelyinhealthandsafetyprograms,training,andinitiatives.
- Reporthazards,incidents,accidents,nearmisses,illnesses,andinjuriespromptly.

WhatWe’reLookingFor

Education&Experience;

- CollegeDiplomainarelatedfield,orGrade12diplomacombinedwithrelevantexperienceandcertification.
- MinistryoftheEnvironmentWaterDistributionSystemOperatorCertification.
- WaterDistributionLevelIICertificationorhigherispreferred.
- Previousexperienceworkinginamunicipalwaterdistributionenvironment.
- Experienceoperatingconstructionandmaintenanceequipmentrelatedtowaterdistributionsystems.

Skills&Competencies;

- ValidClassDZDriver'sLicence.
- Knowledgeofwaterdistributionsystems,infrastructuremaintenancepractices,andregulatoryrequirements.
- Knowledgeofundergroundutilitiesandconstructiontechniques.
- Abilitytointerpretplans,drawings,specifications,workorders,andoperationalinstructions.
- Strongcommunicationandinterpersonalskills.
- WorkingknowledgeofGISandbasiccomputerapplications.
- Familiaritywithconfinedspacerequirementsandapplicablehealthandsafetylegislation.
