The Department of Anthropology at U of T Mississauga is hiring for a pivotal Collections Officer. This full-time role focuses on transforming stewardship through Indigenous direction, supporting repatriation, and fostering partnerships with Indigenous Nations. You will guide consultation and long-term stewardship processes, ensuring respect for Indigenous rights and governance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee documentation and curation of archaeological belongings
• Coordinate consultations and build relationships with Indigenous Nations
• Support the Collections & Data Committee in developing operating procedures
• Liaise with communities and institutions on stewardship processes
• Manage logistics for repatriation and stewardship efforts
Requirements:
• Master's Degree or equivalent experience
• 6-7 years in collections management or heritage stewardship
• Proven Indigenous engagement and consultation experience
• Familiarity with repatriation processes in Indigenous contexts
• Understanding of legislative frameworks on archaeological stewardship
Lead the stewardship of Indigenous collections and contribute to reconciliation efforts at UTM.
