Calling all individuals who are listed band members of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation (COTTFN) and who are interested in becoming a Trustee for the Big Bear Creek Trust. Trustees are eligible to receive Honorariums. There will be two (2) Member Trustees appointed, one that resides on the reserve and one that resides in Ontario, not on COTTFN. Member Trustees shall serve a term of four years from the date of their appointment.

Interested individuals must either:

1. Have previous Trustee experience
2. Successfully completed Level 1 of Trustee Training through the National Aboriginal Trust Officers Association (N.A.T.O.A.), or
3. Attend specified Trustee training.

There will be two specified trustee training sessions offered, of which one must be attended as follows: Monday September 21, 2026 @ 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Microsoft Teams Microsoft Teams Thursday September 24, 2026 @ 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Microsoft Teams Microsoft Teams

Qualifications of a Trustee:

- Be a Member of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation
- Be of good character based on Seven Anishinaabek Grandfather teachings: Truth, Bravery, Honesty, Humility, Respect, Wisdom, Love
- Not be an un-discharged bankrupt
- Have a explicit Criminal Record Verification from the Canadian Police Information Centre
- Be 18 years or older
- Not be a member of COTTFN Council

Duties and Obligations of a Trustee:

1. a) Attend meetings of the Trust Committee, be prepared by reviewing information prior to the meeting, and actively participate in discussions.
2. b) Bring forward community concerns for discussion at Committee meetings.
3. c) Hire one or more Investment Managers who have been selected and approved by Council.
4. d) Delegate the ability to make decisions on the types and timing of the purchase and sale of Authorized Investments to the Investment Manager.
5. e) Provide input into the development of an Investment Policy.

Ensure that the investment of funds by the Investment Manager complies with Schedule “A” of the Trust agreement and/or the Investment Policy.
7. g) Ensure that a performance evaluation of the Investment Manager occurs at least once every four years or annually upon the receipt of a Council Resolution so directing.
8. h) Submit financial statements and explanation of Authorized Expenses to Council on a quarterly basis.
9. i) Pay Council’s Authorized Expenses on a timely basis.
10. j) Maintain adequate records of all transactions affecting the Trust Property.
11. k) In collaboration with Council, initiate a Community Consultation Process to oversee, monitor, and manage the expenditure of funds from the Community Development Bank Account.
12. l) In collaboration with Council, conduct at least two meetings with Members each Fiscal Year to provide them with a full accounting of how the Community Development Account funds received were spent in the preceding fiscal year and to inform Members of the progress of projects funded.
13. m) Participate in training as determined by Council and recommend additional training to help Trustees understand their duties and obligations.
14. n) Prepare an annual report and annual financial audit and submit to Council and to Members upon written request.
15. o) Attend and participate in Members’ meetings called by Council.
16. p) Review and recommend revisions to the Operational Manual to ensure procedural efficiency.
