Job Overview
This role involves supporting a 15 year old client on the autism spectrum to explore and socially engage in the community. It is designed to promote independence, well-being and confidence while taking part in activities of interest. The ideal candidate will have robust communication skills, a caring attitude, and experience working in special education or with individuals with ASD. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a young person's life while developing valuable skilled skills.
Duties
Support client in participating in community activities and social engagements every second weekend (Saturday or Sunday) for 4 hours.
Communicate effectively with client while supporting their ability to socially interact in public settings (restaurants, beach, volunteering, public transit).
Plan and implement activities that promote life skills development.
Provide emotional support and companionship to foster a positive relationship.
Collaborate with family members to plan outings and activities. This position will include becoming a volunteer to accompany and support client.
Experience
Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities/ASD in a supportive or caregiving role (or lived experience with a family member)
Knowledge of special education principles
Strong communication skills
Compassionate attitude with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally
Must have reliable vehicle
Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check and drivers abstract
