Position: Recreation Instructor - Badminton for Kids
Location: Don Folk & Family Recreation & Wellness Centre
Hours: Mondays, 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Start Date: January 2027
Wage: $21.00/hour + 4% in lieu of benefits
The City of Kelowna is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Badminton for Kids Instructor to lead weekly badminton programs for children at the new Don Folk & Family Recreation & Wellness Centre. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children and have a passion for teaching sport skills in a fun, supportive, and inclusive workplace.
Responsibilities
Lead protected, engaging, and age-appropriate badminton lessons for children.
Teach fundamental badminton skills, game rules, and sportsmanship.
Adapt instruction to meet varying skill levels and abilities.
Set up and put away program equipment.
Foster a positive and welcoming atmosphere for participants and families.
Follow City of Kelowna policies and safety procedures.
Qualifications
Experience playing badminton is required.
Previous coaching or instructional experience is an asset.
Current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C (or equivalent).
Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) certification, or willingness to obtain.
A clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
Robust communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience working with children is preferred.
Ability to work independently and reliably.
