Position Overview
The Sr. Import/Export Coordinator within Freight Forwarding is responsible for preparing weekly reports and completing bookings to secure shipping space and arranging trucking schedules for the following weeks’ load. The Sr. Import/Export Coordinator also prepares shipping documents, booking confirmations, and checks the warehouse to ensure there is sufficient inventory available.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Preparation of essential shipping documentation on a daily basis
- Following up and updating customers on their import/export shipments
- Communicating with steamship lines, terminals, customs brokers, truckers and overseas agents
- Ensuring all shipment documentation is in compliance with customs rules and regulations
- Calculating weight, volume and cost of goods being moved
- Coordinating release and entry processing for ocean and air import shipments, including US Customs and Border Protection, coordinating freight releases and arrange final delivery if needed
- Maintain effective relationships with clients, carriers, forwarders, customs etc.
- Prepare price quotes on international freight
- Develop and maintain relationships with customers as well as vendors specifically steamship lines and customs
- Research and resolve operational problems
- Ensure customer needs are consistently met and assist to resolve inquiries
- Expedite clearance and delivery to exceed customer requirements
- Ongoing coaching and development of staff skills.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned or required.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years relevant experience preferably in International freight forwarding
- Must have a working knowledge of the sea and air freight exports and imports, US Customs, consolidation, NVOCC, tariff’s air carrier terminology and TSA regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with great attention to detail.
Must work well in a team environment and assist other peers when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Physical Requirements
This is largely a sedentary role requiring the physical ability to:
- Sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer
- Use hands and fingers to operate a keyboard, mouse, and telephone
- Speak and hear clearly in person, virtually, and over the phone
- Occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or lift up to 10 pounds
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office setting. The role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as

- photocopiers
- filing cabinets
- printers
The work environment is typically quiet to moderate in noise level and is climate controlled.
Location/Remote Eligibility
This is a hybrid role based out of a local Freight Forwarding office. Regular, on-site presence is required (4) days perweek or as otherwise directed by the company.
The role may be performed in a hybrid work setting (combination of on-site and/or remote), depending on businessneeds and location eligibility. When working remote, employees are expected to maintain a dedicated, distraction-free, confidential workspace and reliable internet connection.

Work hours may vary by shift assignment and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on business needs.
