Make a meaningful impact at FIRST UNITED as a Shelter Resource Worker in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. This daytime role focuses on supporting individuals facing homelessness through active listening and community engagement.
FIRST UNITED is looking for a female candidate to cover an indefinite leave in our low barrier shelter. Working from 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday, you'll gain skills in crisis intervention and support for those with complex mental health issues. Your primary goal will be to create a welcoming, safe setting and engage residents effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
• Create a calming and safe environment for shelter residents
• Welcome new users and complete shelter intakes
• Maintain order through regular counts and checks
• Communicate meal times and sleeping area access
• Document daily interactions and community information
Requirements:
• Minimum Grade 12 education
• One year experience with marginalized populations
• Certification in First Aid and crisis intervention
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to manage stress and adapt to changes
