JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports to: Technical Manager
Status: Full Time

Job Summary:
The Estimator will be responsible for all quality, technical, cost, schedule, and contractual matters by supporting awarded projects and in the preparation of Pre-Qualifications and Tenders in connection with the Business Development Team.
Main Functional Links:
Technical Director, Technical Office Manager, Estimator, Cost Controller, Project Managers, Office and Site Engineers
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction estimating principles and practices.
Understanding of EPB, Slurry, and Open-Face TBM operations, segmental tunnel lining systems, and micro tunnelling/pipe jacking methodologies.
Knowledge of Reinforced Concrete Jacking Pipe (RCJP) installation, handling, and associated construction requirements.
Ability to interpret Geotechnical Data Reports (GDRs), Geotechnical Baseline Reports (GBRs), drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 5-8 years of heavy civil estimating experience, including at least 3 years dedicated to TBM tunneling, microtunnelling, or pipe jacking projects.
Experience preparing estimates and bid submissions for major underground infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Primavera P6, Arriba, Revit, Tilos,
or similar construction software is considered an asset.
Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and eligibility to work in Canada.
STRABAG – Work on Progress
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed, resource-loaded cost estimates, bid proposals, and Bill of Quantities (BOQs) for tunneling and trenchless construction projects.
Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and contract requirements to identify scope, risks, and pricing strategies.
Perform quantity take-offs and develop production-based cost models for TBM tunneling and micro tunnelling/pipe jacking operations.
Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations, including tunnel lining segments, RCJP systems, and specialized tunneling materials.
Prepare material take-offs and cost estimates for consumables such as grout, bentonite, polymers, lubricants, and other project-specific materials.
Analyze geotechnical reports and develop risk registers and contingency pricing for ground-related risks and construction challenges.
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, operations, and project controls teams to support competitive and compliant tender submissions.
Maintain estimating databases, cost histories, and pricing benchmarks.
