Temporary Full-time

The Infrastructure, Transportation & Parks department is seeking a temporary full time Labourer 2 to work in the Sewer and Water group for approximately one (1) year. You will perform unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual tasks in the construction and maintenance of water distribution, sanitary collection, and/or storm collection systems. You will perform tasks related to installing, repairing and maintaining mains and connections, such as, setting and checking line and grade, placing and compacting gravel backfill, installing and cutting pipe, and installing shoring; work may also include fire hydrants, valves and meters, or catch basins and manholes. You will also operate related compressor, hydraulic and/or power tools; perform cleaning and maintenance tasks for mains and PRV stations; or watercourses, catch basins, manholes and pump stations; and perform traffic control duties.
Work assignments may also be in any of the Engineering Operations work sections, based on operational requirements.
You will have related experience in utilities maintenance and construction and good knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in utilities work. You must have demonstrated ability to perform heavy physical labouring / manual work. You will have successfully completed grade 12. A valid Class 5 Drivers License is required.
You must also be able to deal effectively with the public and embrace values such as teamwork, respect, a positive attitude, professionalism and integrity. Certification in Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection within the Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) would be an asset.
For temporary full-time positions of 8 months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
Salary
$35.62 per hour (2026 rates)
Hours of Work
7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
