Job Description
Position Summary
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Analyst is responsible for supporting the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial and payroll-related records. The role has a strong focus on accounting analysis, reconciliations, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit activities, while also supporting the accurate and timely processing of payroll.
The Payroll Analyst works collaboratively with Payroll, Human Resources, and Finance to analyze financial information, identify and resolve discrepancies, perform account and transaction reconciliations, support month-end and year-end processes, and ensure compliance with organizational policies, legislative requirements, and reporting obligations. The position also contributes to process improvements that strengthen financial controls, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills Required
Postsecondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, preferably at the college level.
1–3 years of experience working in accounting, financial analysis, auditing, or payroll accounting.
Experience with account reconciliations, journal entries, financial analysis, and audit processes.
Knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting practices, and internal controls.
Experience reviewing financial transactions and supporting compliance and audit activities.
Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Working knowledge of Avanti is an asset.
Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation is considered an asset.
Membership in the National Payroll Institute (NPI) in good standing is preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy when working with high volumes of financial transactions.
Proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload, and work effectively in a rapid-paced environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professional conduct.
Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check.
Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Key Responsibilities
Perform payroll account reconciliations and financial reviews to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial records.
Prepare, review, and analyze payroll journal entries and supporting documentation.
Support month-end and year-end financial close processes, including reconciliations, account analysis, and preparation of supporting schedules.
Conduct financial analysis and variance reviews, investigate discrepancies, and ensure appropriate resolution and documentation.
Perform internal audits and reviews of financial and payroll-related transactions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to established internal controls.
Review payroll transactions and related financial information to ensure proper accounting treatment, accuracy, and completeness.
Conduct audits and reviews within the Avanti payroll system to ensure data integrity, transaction accuracy, and compliance with established processes.
Prepare and maintain financial, payroll, management, ministry,
and regulatory reports as required.
Assist with budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis.
Support internal and external audit activities by preparing reconciliations, schedules, supporting documentation, and responding to information requests.
Identify discrepancies, control weaknesses, and process gaps and recommend improvements to strengthen financial controls and reporting accuracy.
Assist with the development, documentation, implementation, and continuous improvement of accounting, payroll, and financial processes and procedures.
Review financial and payroll processes for compliance with organizational policies, legislative requirements, collective agreements, and applicable standards.
Liaise with Finance, Payroll, Human Resources, and other departments to investigate and resolve financial discrepancies and ensure accurate records.
Support the implementation and maintenance of effective internal controls over financial and payroll-related processes.
Maintain confidentiality and security of employee, financial, and organizational information at all times.
Support compliance with applicable legislation, organizational policies, and reporting requirements.
Process bi-weekly payroll for hourly, salary, non-union and union employees.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
