Litigation Associate
to join our litigation practice group. You will be working with a team of three lawyers, one paralegal and support staff and students. The ideal candidate will have
3 to 5 years of experience
working on civil and/or commercial litigation matters and will be capable of independently handling files. Responsibilities include: Managing a diverse caseload of litigation matters from inception through to resolution; Drafting pleadings, motion/application materials, factums, and other documents; Attending discoveries, cross-examinations, mediations, motions, case conferences, hearings, trials, and appeals; Conducting legal research and preparing legal memoranda; Developing litigation strategies and providing legal opinions; Corresponding and negotiating with opposing counsel; Advising and communicating with clients throughout the litigation process; Supervising and collaborating with support staff on file management and other related tasks. The successful candidate will have:
3-5 years of experience in civil and/or commercial litigation; Experience managing litigation matters; Experience arguing contested motions and applications; Strong research, advocacy and negotiation skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the confidence to independently carry a full caseload; Team-oriented approach; High degree of personal ethics, integrity, and responsibility with an ability to deal with sensitive issues and safeguard confidential information; Good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. Salary Range: $125,000 to $160,000 for 3-5 years [Commensurate with experience - candidates with more experience will be considered]. Candidates can expect a high pressure and busy workplace given the nature of the work and number of files. The firm encourages a solutions-focused (not problem-driven) approach to dealing with complications or issues that may arise on files. The candidate will be part of a team, and expected to work individually.
