Reporting to the Supervisor of Arena Operations, the Aquatics & Fitness Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation and maintenance of municipal aquatic and fitness facilities. The successful candidate will maintain indoor and outdoor pools, water park facilities, fitness facilities, mechanical systems, water chemistry, filtration systems, and related equipment to ensure facilities remain safe, operational, and compliant with applicable regulations. The role includes troubleshooting mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and chemical feed systems, performing seasonal facility opening and closing procedures,
monitoring water quality, and ensuring the highest standards of service for the public. The Aquatics & Fitness Operator also provides guidance and direction to contractors, provides information to leadership for responses to inquiries from patrons, staff, and external stakeholders.
Qualifications Minimum one (1) year of experience operating and maintaining aquatic facilities, including pool mechanical systems, water chemistry, filtration systems, and related equipment. Secondary school completion and a 2 year post secondary education, preferably in facility maintenance or a trade
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification is required.
Must possess a valid Standard First Aid Certificate.
A valid Class G driver's Licence in good standing is required.
The successful candidate must be able to perform moderate physical work, including lifting chemicals and equipment, climbing ladders, and working in tight spaces associated with pool filtration systems and mechanical equipment.
Demonstrated experience balancing pool chemistry, performing backwashing procedures, and carrying out seasonal opening and closing procedures for aquatic facilities.
Working knowledge of pool mechanical systems, including pumps, plumbing, filtration equipment, electrical components, and chemical feed systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Regulation 565 Public Pools, and other applicable provincial legislation.
Ability to operate light-duty vehicles, tractors, scissor lifts, hand tools,
and power tools safely and effectively.
Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting skills related to facility operations and aquatic systems.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to address complaints, provide information, and work effectively with staff, contractors, external agencies, and members of the public.
Ability to provide guidance, instruction, and direction to contractors, seasonal employees, and students.
Ability to work in environments involving exposure to chemicals, moisture, body fluids, and varying weather and temperature conditions.
This position is required to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as required, including rotating on-call.
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must provide a current Police Record Check, satisfactory to the Corporation, prior to commencing employment.
As a condition of employment, proof of current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications will be required.
