District of Stewart Labourer Full time, Permanent Issue Date: October 5, 2026 Closing Date: October 19, 2026 The District of Stewart is inviting applications from enthusiastic individuals, focused on delivering exceptional service to the community alongside a dedicated team.
THE DISTRICT OF STEWART is currently seeking applications for two (2) Labourers to support Public Works operations. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team that values collaboration, mutual respect, and a willingness to support one another in delivering exceptional service to the community. At the same time, this position offers a high degree of independence and responsibility in the day-to-day works duties.This opportunity provides meaningful work, ongoing learning, and significant potential for growth and advancement for the right individual. The successful candidate may have opportunities to pursue additional certifications and advance into senior operational roles within the organization.
Duties & Responsibilities: General Grounds maintenance including lawn mowing, weed trimming, raking & brushing
Ditch maintenance, pavement and sidewalk repair
Snow removal including shovelling, salting and keeping fire hydrants & garbage bins clear of snow
Litter and cardboard recycling pick-up;
Painting and maintenance support;
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience & Attributes: Grade 12 Education or equivalent;




Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence & current driver's abstract satisfactory to the Employer;
Safe work attitude and proven ability to follow direction and work collaboratively with coworkers;
Good physical condition and ability perform manual labour and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions;
Robust work ethic, reliability, attention to detail and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Assets: Municipal Public Works experience, supporting roads, drainage, water, wastewater & winter maintenance.
Occupational First Aid certification, Fall Arrest & Confined Space Training/Experience, BC Small Water/ Wastewater Systems certification considered an asset.
Experience with the use and maintenance of public works tools and equipment.
Experience in construction, forestry, mining, highways, utilities, agriculture or related activities.
This position is covered by the Collective Agreement between the District of Stewart and CUPE Local 1804. The current rate as of January 2026 for this position is $34.68 / hr We thank all applicants, however only those being selected for an interview will be contacted
