Reporting to the Manager of Community Recreation & Events, the Supervisor of Special Events oversees the delivery of identified City facilitated community events, coordinates directly with Parks Supervisor to effectively communicate logistical work orders, as well as acts as a liaison to Special Event/Community Event Organizers. Through effective collaboration between various City Departments and stake holders, the Supervisor connects and leads a dynamic team consisting of staff and community volunteers, dedicated to activating community spaces through events.
Lead a team responsible for enhancing community pride through the research, development, planning, coordination, marketing & promotion, and delivery of an exciting annual calendar of programs and events including but not limited to Brantford s Canada Day, the Remembrance Day Ceremony, Corporate recognition events, Harmony Square events & programming as well as special one-time events.
Effectively educate the community on the Special Events Policy 010 and lead the SEAT (Special Events Advisory Team)
towards a one-stop shop event planning resource dedicated to the secure and effective delivery of special events
Work collaboratively with supporting other City staff to plan, implement and evaluate the special events taking place in the City of Brantford
Coordinate, monitors and evaluate action plans created for Community Events
Develop and secure program partnerships, sponsorship programs and research & strategize funding opportunities required for programs and events
Act as a liaison to Downtown Community stakeholders including but not limited to the Brantford Public Library, the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, Downtown Brantford BIA, Laurier Brantford, Conestoga, and other community groups & organizations, supporting an engage downtown community dedicated to a positive Downtown culture
Lead, motivate, coordinate, schedule, and train and supervise staff and volunteers for programs and special events
Utilize available resources to effectively promote programs and special events
Oversee, prepare, maintain and approve the preparation of website content and monitor updates.
Provide support through SEAT and act as a City liaison to community event organizers as required.
Monitor special events in city parks ensuring compliance through the SEAT Standard/Policy and applicable by-laws
Monitor and evaluate special event budgets including revenue generation and expenditures
Through special events, contribute to a corporate strategy to promote the City of Brantford as a highly desirable place to live, work, learn, and play
Provide high quality of customer service and implement professional events from concept to completion
Evaluate the success of events against Key Performance Measures established annually
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications The Supervisor of Special Events is a highly energetic member of the Community Recreation & Events Division responsible for the delivering of high-quality event experiences to the community as well as providing expertise and consultation to community event organizers. Dedicated to exceptional customer service,
the position required an effective communicator that will provide leadership by establishing systems to effectively execute and/or service hundreds of annual events taking place within the City of Brantford. Effectively planning, developing, implementing and overseeing overall execution of special event planning, the Supervisor will ensure accurate evaluation of a wide range of internal and external special events. Three years of previous experience in special event planning is a requirement of the position that includes knowledge of event risk management, financial sustainability through development of sponsorship programs and grant writing, and creative program planning and implementation. Working knowledge of MS Office computer programs and software is required, plus the ability and skills to perform the duties as outlined herein within a reasonable time.
Completion of a three-year college program in Recreation & Leisure Studies, Special Events Management, Business Administration, or equivalent.
Intermediate skills with MS Office Suite is required
Frequent evening, weekend, holiday and overtime work required
Valid Level C First Aid and CPR certification
Valid SmartServe Certification
Current Police Clearance Certificate required
IMS 200 Certification or equivalent (ICS200) is considered an asset. Subject to course availability, certification must be achieved within the first year of employment
