About the Job
Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.
The Department of Women's and Gender Studies invites applications for a tenure-track posiiton at the rank of Assistant Professor in Women's and Gender Studies with an anticipated starting date of July 1, 2027.
Responsibilities
We welcome candidates with demonstrable experience in research in one or more of the following areas broadly construed: Gender-Based Violence, Feminist Legal Theory, or Global Social Justice Studies. We especially seek candidates who apply decolonial, Indigenous, transnational, and/or queer approaches to these topics. The successful candidate will demonstrate the capability to teach, advise, and support undergraduate students as well as graduate students in our Gender and Social Justice M.A. The candidate will have the potential to develop a prominent research portfolio in their areas of expertise and participate in faculty governance.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
A PhD in Women’s and Gender Studies or a related discipline. ABD applicants with a strong expectation of completing the PhD before July 1, 2027, may also be considered.
Evidence of an emerging or established research program, demonstrated through research publications, conference presentations, community-engaged scholarship, and/or other participatory forms of research.
Research that employs critical approaches to one or more of the following areas: Gender-Based Violence, Feminist Legal Theory, or Global Social Justice Studies.
Familiarity with interdisciplinary learning contexts, diverse student communities, and inclusive classrooms.
It is an asset to have:
Decolonial, Indigenous, transnational and/or queer approaches to research and teaching.
Ability to teach some of the current courses in our WGS and GSJ course catalog.
Experience in community-based learning, service learning, experiential learning, and/or decolonial teaching approaches.
Potential to contribute to interdisciplinary programs and centres, including but not limited to, the Institute for Intersectionality Studies, Black Studies, Media & Technologies Studies/Digital Humanities,
and other Departments within the Faculty of Arts.

Teaching dossier that should include:
a teaching philosophy (2 pages max)
two course syllabi of past or potential courses
any additional evidence of teaching effectiveness, including peer assessments, departmental chair assessments, and teaching awards (10 pages maximum).
Upon request if shortlisted:
if available, student evaluations of teaching, preferably from different levels, and a brief (1 page max) explanation of how those teaching evaluations were conducted and interpreted. These would be requested on December 4, 2026 .
