The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming workplace throughout Kitimat CDC facilities. This position performs routine cleaning, minor maintenance reporting, lawn care, snow removal of walkways/emergency exits and facility support duties to ensure the building is well-kept for staff, clients, children, and visitors. The Janitor plays an important role in supporting health, safety, and the overall appearance and functioning of the organization.
Position: Permanent full-time
Wage: $23.54- 25.45 per hour

Responsibilities:
Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and polish floors, furniture, fixtures, and surfaces
Clean and sanitize offices, meeting rooms, common areas, washrooms, kitchens, classrooms, and other facility spaces
Empty garbage and recycling bins and dispose of waste in accordance with organizational procedures
Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly
Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and cleaning products
Monitor facility cleanliness and identify areas requiring additional attention
Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damages, and supply shortages to the appropriate supervisor
Support seasonal and periodic cleaning tasks, including deep cleaning as required (i.e. floor waxing, computer dusting)
Ensure entrances, walkways, and designated exterior areas are clean and presentable
Follow safe handling, storage, and use procedures for cleaning chemicals and equipment
Operate cleaning equipment safely and properly
Assist with room set-up and basic facility support tasks as needed
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while working in client and staff areas
Comply with all Kitimat CDC policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements
Work as part of a team and communicate effectively, managing one-time requests and adjusting cleaning routines based on room availability
Work safely, mediate risks, and follow WorkSafe BC standards
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Administrative Coordinator or designate
Qualifications:
Grade 12 or equivalent preferred
First Aid Level 1 (preferred)
Previous janitorial or custodial experience is an asset
Knowledge of safe cleaning practices, sanitation standards, and cleaning products
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks efficiently
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
Reliable, punctual, and dependable
Physically able to perform cleaning duties, including lifting, bending, standing, and repetitive tasks
WHMIS certificates
Clean Criminal Record Check will be required
Additional Requirements:
Have a valid driver's license and available vehicle.
Must have a completed and approved criminal records check
Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
