Job Description:
Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at Augustana Campus, Camrose.
The Department of Social Sciences at the Augustana Faculty of the University of Alberta invites applications for a tenure-track position in Psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in Psychology or be near completion by the start date of the appointment. They will also be expected to show a strong commitment to supporting the Augustana tradition of high-quality undergraduate teaching, research and service.
Responsibilities:
- The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong and sustainable research program and to provide meaningful opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in research. We welcome a range of experimental and quantitative approaches and particularly value research programs well suited to an undergraduate-focused setting. The successful candidate will contribute to Augustana's culture of undergraduate research and mentorship and will have opportunities to develop interdisciplinary collaborations within Augustana Faculty and across the University of Alberta.
- The successful candidate will also contribute to the ongoing development of the Psychology curriculum, particularly the BSc in Psychology, and to Augustana's commitment to high-quality and inclusive undergraduate education, including ongoing efforts to Indigenize and decolonize the curriculum and advance Access, Community + Belonging (ACB) in teaching, research, and mentorship.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in Psychology or be near completion by the start date of the appointment.
- The successful candidate will be an emerging scholar whose research and teaching are grounded in cognitive science, behavioural, or any other major area of experimental psychology. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, learning and memory, attention, perception, language, decision-making, motivation, psychometrics and psychological measurement, or related areas in the scientific study of cognition and behaviour.
- We particularly welcome candidates whose expertise complements existing strengths in Psychology at Augustana and who can contribute to the development and delivery of upper-level courses within their area of expertise.
- An ability to teach senior-level research methods and/or statistics courses would also be considered an asset.
