Position: Therapeutic Recreation -Program Facilitator

EFT: 0.5 permanent The LIFE (Leisure in Fun Environments) Program is a therapeutic recreation program, which provides opportunities for children and youth with disabilities to engage in meaningful recreational opportunities.

The Therapeutic Recreation Program

Facilitator works under the direction of the LIFE Program Coordinators and Director, Neurodevelopmental Services & Client, Family and Community Services. They are responsible for planning, preparing, and implementing therapeutic recreations programs.

Responsibilities:

· Oversee and run RCC therapeutic recreational programs in collaboration with the Program Coordinator

· Be familiar with and follow RCC policies and work in accordance with RCC Vision, Mission and Values.

· Promotes good interpersonal relationships by modelling professional behavior and practice.

· Supervise Recreation Support Worker (RSW) staff. This includes providing orientation, training, mentoring, coaching, and support and provides input to Program Coordinator about performance.

· Make recommendations regarding the initiation, development, implementation, and revision of client care programs.

· Lead and take part in all activities and facilitate participation on the part of clients.

· Be aware of, plan for and provide appropriate support related to participant needs.

· Monitor inventory and purchase any necessary supplies (craft materials, snacks etc.)

· In accordance with PHIA/FIPPA, communicate with parents/caregivers, RSWs, Program Coordinator and others as needed (written and oral)

· Complete assigned administrative duties such as completing incident reports, time sheets,



and expense sheets.

· Function as an effective and productive member of the recreation program team.

· Works safely and with due regard for use of equipment including identifying faulty equipment, removing it from active use and notifying appropriate personnel.

· Recognizes limitations in knowledge, judgement and skills and takes appropriate action to compensate for any limitations identified.

Education, Licenses, Registration & Exoerience

· Degree in recreation therapy -required

· A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with relevant population in related capacity. - required

· CPR, First Aid, Low Arousal, WEVAS, NVCI, Food Handlers Certificate -preferred

Hours of Work: Varies throughout the week depending on program requirements. Includes evenings and weekends. 37.5 hours bi-weekly.

Salary: As per MAHCP salary scale.

· Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and able to present a satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Checks.

· Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
